Thanks Pete, You noticed the backlined Rumble 500. I've always been critical of Fender Bass amps. However, I was impressed with the Rumble 500. It had a very nice punch. Daryl

That’s pretty much my approach. Set the EQ on the bass at flat, dial in a standard “core tone” on the amp and then tweak slightly from there on the bass EQ as necessary using the minimum amount of cut or boost to achieve the desired sound. If I’m honest, on a 2 or 3 band EQ it’s rare for the tone knobs to be boosted at all or if they are only to around 2 at most on a “-5-0-+5” cut and boost control. Hard to think of a circumstance where I’d boost or cut all the way. I think most of my on the fly tone shaping is probably done with the pickup blend control and changing how/where I pluck the strings. Nice to have the EQ there for times when it’s needed. I never get sucked into endless EQ fiddling but end up with 3 or 4 particular fave tone settings for different types of song across a set. A punchy/rocky one, a mellow one, a funky one… I’ve also never felt the need for sweepable mid controls in a bass - too much room for error and dialling in a bad tone. A simple, well designed, fixed centre mid control gives me more than enough of a “punch” control in 99.9% of circumstances.

Here we have a fantastic Glockenlang preamp, comprising Volume, Treble and Bass controls. Pull passive tone circuit activated from Push/Pull vol control. This was removed by my tech from another bass I got in a trade. If you use a twin pickup bass you will just need to obtain a suitable balance pot. The details: GLOCKENKLANG 2-band onboard preamp Active/passive switchable (at the volume push/pull) Treble-pot with +/- 18 dB@18 KHz in active mode, acting as classical high cut in passive mode Bass-pot with +/- 14 dB@40 Hz. Input-impedance (without Balance): 1,5 MOhm Frequency range: 20 Hz -20 KHz Power requirement: 9 volts/1,3 mA Min. installation depth: 28 mm (1.1″) Due to the high performance electronics, in flat position of the eq you can hear no difference between active and passive mode! £75 inc postage. Paypal (you pay fees) or bank transfer both fine. Please see my extensive positive feedback thread for assurance of a simple, honest transaction.

One of the things is I do when I dep is ask for a dress code. I don't want to be the bass player in the wrong band. I have 2 basses, I won't be hiring or buying one for a dep gig, I'm happy to borrow the bands regular bass player's bass if it's that important, but I've never done a Tribute band so it's never come up.

Thanks Muzz, Like I said, I'm not really a " take a solo " guy. However, the way Max our drummer lays back makes it tolerable. Daryl

Thanks Dave, The ankle is slowly healing. By the time I had taken the EKG and Chemical Stress Test too much healing had occurred and the Podiatrist called off the surgery. To be honest, I've never been comfortable taking solos. I felt like I had painted myself into a corner and couldn't find a way out. Lol Daryl

Thanks Obrienp, I'm not sure those guitars were properly mixed. Those guys were constantly tuning between songs. I mentioned this before. We had an hour break between sets . It was heaven to have an air conditioned trailer. Daryl

Looking at it, it's probably more like 3-4 feet at the last two indoor venues. Both "PA venues" with house sound guys, foldbacks. The music is standard rock covers. I agree, it doesn't seem normal but that's the reality. I can experiment with the position of the cab but it would have to be done with the band playing. At level check when it's just me hitting single notes for the sound guy, it's all tickety boo. I think it's worth reiterating that when we do soundcheck I'm setting the rig at a level where I can hear it standing on my spot, that's when they say, "too loud" and I roll off. When no one else is playing, that soundcheck volume is definitely too loud. For gigging levels, I can't hear myself properly, or I can't hear my sound, just mud.

Picked this up recently. Needed a fret dress, and now plays very well. My 2 1/2 year old daughter has started playing it too. I bought it under the pretence that it's hers...

I'm still working on it. We play the song so fast it's hard to come up with something. Daryl

@stevie Happy to PM me?

I've never needed it to be that loud as the dispersion is excellent. I have literally walked over to the guitarist (on the OTHER side of my drummer) and heard myself almost as loud and clearly as standing in front of my rig.
-
Thanks Dclaassen, I put the MIJ 2000 Fender P away for a while. I'm back with my 1994 G&L. Daryl
-
I can explain why this is happening and why LFSys cabs have been designed specifically to fix this problem. But I'm sure someone else who's not as heavily invested in LFSys will explain.
-
You can't hear a Two10, 8 ft in front of it? That's not normal. What music is the band playing? "I tend to have my sound pretty sorted". Have you changed cabs or any other gear recently? Is the band loud? Is the guitarist "stealing" your frequencies? My guess is your band thinks you are "so loud" on stage because the dispersion from BF cabs exceeds most other cabs. They can hear you because the design of the cab makes it happen. Another guess, your problem might be your EQ. I'd try a gig with no pedals and see what happens. I'd also experiment with the position of the cab. Maybe move it forwards on stage, maybe angle it away from the band.
-
I tend to have my sound pretty sorted, at least it sounds good to me when I use wireless and go out front during soundcheck. I switch back to a lead for the show. It's a GK Fusion 550 (EQs mostly between 11 to 1 0'Clock). Spector, Nickel Rounds, no dirt, just some compression, and occasional chorus and EQ pedals. The last gig was fine, it was outdoors and I had some distance between me and the cab. Previous gigs have been just dreadful with the same set up. I can hear my rig OK when it's just me doing level checks but when we're playing as a band it seems to get lost on stage when I'm close to the rig.

This does a lot of stuff, similar in many ways to the Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2. Here's what you get: • 7 x isolated DC outputs (5 are switchable 9V/12V, 2 have a sag control to emulate a dying battery and provide variable voltage from 4V-9V, but can also provide a normal 9V) • 1 x 9V AC output that can power a Whammy pedal (if you want/need a whammy pedal too then I'm open to offers!) • The whole unit is switchable 230v/115V if you're taking it abroad I'm including as many patch cables as I could find, including a doubler cable for powering 18V pedals (I used to run a bit Cali76 off this). Comes with box and manual. £50 securely packed and tracked to mainland UK addresses.

I don't understand why this is happening for you, as it's not my experience with the 10" BF cabs. Plus the fact that your bandmates "are wondering why you're so loud". What's the rest of your rig, and what kind of sound are you aiming for? The BF 10" cabs really fill the space, and sound good from anywhere on stage in my experience. I have a BF Three10 and a One10, and last night I used my One10 at Matt & Phreds in Manchester. It could be heard very well and clearly all around the stage, and in fact the sound guy asked me to turn down a tad after the first set. The FOH was doing most of the work, but on stage it was great. The amp was a GK Legacy 800 with the top end rolled off a bit, with a P bass with flats. Rob

PRICE NOW DROPPED TO £300. Easily the best speaker cabinet I have ever used: am downsizing to lighter Genz Benz cabs as I rarely play live now. The Eden D210XST Cab is loud enough to be heard and yet still small enough to be used at home or in a small studio. For those players who need a portable, high-performance rig with even more low end than the XLT, Eden has designed a 2 x 10" cabinet for their XST woofers. Punchy and clean, the D210XST produces a full and clear tone through its two 10" speakers. It's excellent for delivering articulate bass lines with volume. This 2 x 10" cabinet handles more power than many 4 x 10" cabs on the market. The D210XST offers huge bottom end with its cleverly-designed tuned and ported cabinet construction and speaker selection: the low end is full but tight, the mids are open and well-defined and the highs are clear and crisp. Durable build quality makes this ideal for touring and live performances. All Eden enclosures are constructed with 5/8" thick void free plywood with full dado and rabbet jointing. Massive internal bracing prevents vibration and keeps the sound deep, tight and clear. Exclusive Eden Cast Frame loudspeakers and Eden Cast Bell low distortion tweeter horns are designed, hand-built and tested in their own factory in the USA. Very Good condition. Comes with an official Eden cover. Power Handling: 500 Watts Impedance: 8 Ohms Speakers: 2x10" Eden-spec Eminence EC1060XS speakers Tweeter: Eden Cast Bell low distortion Crossover: 3.5KHz @ 18dB Frequency Response: 30Hz - 14KHz Sensitivity: 103dB SPL Connections: Parallel 1/4 Inch and Speakon Dimensions: 23" w x 18" h x 18.5" d Weight: 59lbs / 26.8kg NOW ONLY £300.
