  1. Past hour
  2. They were excellent pickups, looking forward to having some basses for reviews and demos very soon. I can also recommend the Aguilar 4P-60 which I have installed in a Fender Mex Standard P which I use on Queen tribute shows, voiced quite differently to the Monty's pickups but just a different flavour - different pickups work well in different basses, there is no 'one size fits all' solution with pickups.
  3. Hi - ordered this from the States as part of the recent limited run (apparently it's one of 158 globally), but it isn't seeing much use so putting it up for sale. Really nice instrument & one of the best short scale Precision-style instruments that has passed through my hands. I originally bought it as a modding platform & it briefly had Ultralites / rounds fitted, but I preferred it as stock so restrung with the Ernie Ball flats. Also comes with a really good padded Sterling gig bag. I'd prefer a cash/collection deal, but UK postage may be an option as I have the original box. Could potentially trade for a short scale bass, but nothing specific in my sights just now...
  4. @Mike Brooks was joined by Matt Gleason of Monty's at the South East Bass Bash last month and we had a demo of Monty's bass pickups. The P Retrowind was a stand out and one of the nicest P pickups many of us have heard. They are just gorgeous, UK made and although they're not cheap, as soon as we heard it you knew it was special. https://www.montysguitars.com/collections/bass-pickups/products/retro-wind-p-bass-pickup I know @cetera @NancyJohnson and too many others to mention were there but I came away decided that the next P pickup I was going to buy would be one of those. And that is coming from someone who is a dyed-in-the-wool Toltec pickups fanboy. Toltec would be an excellent alternative. Either ay you're getting a UK handcrafted product with excellent support from a small friendly business run and owned by their GenX founders.
  5. From what I have seen, whenever the question has been raised with PJB in the past, even they have said for practical gigging use you'd probably need two of them running in parallel, they're just not geared up for that kind of thing. I am looking to buy one, but its exclusively to plonk on a desk at home and use it with the BT audio input to play along to some tracks without headphones for a change, and even just as a bluetooth speaker. If I was looking to gig with something, I'm sure the £450 would be much, much better spent elsewhere, though I don't have any recommendations I'm afraid!
  6. It indeed does. 😉 Here's a tune I recorded with it a few years ago in one take: https://tonybertrand.bandcamp.com/track/i-wish-i-was-swiss
  7. As an extremely 'amateur' classical string player I cant help thinking CB has missed a trick. He's an insane bassist but its just bass. Im sure if he'd pursed a stringed instrument he could be coining it like Hauser for example. (Hausers a solo cellist but is a bit of a pinup for the instrument). Anyway each to their own I guess. But there's no denying CB's an exceptional musician.
  8. @thebrig sounds like you’re sorted … @Dood I remembered from when I sent you the tort plate for your deacon clone P
  9. Special effects budget has been slashed this year, sorry
  10. It has already shimmered into existence like some kind of not-very-good mirage
  11. GAS is already testing me with some of the glorious basses available in the UK but I’m trying to stick with the strategy of “if it’s not a dream bass, forget it”. Let’s see how I get on in avoiding a first NBD since 2023 😬
  12. He’s not done well as PM…couldn’t you have developed him a bit more?
  13. I have had many great dealings with rich tone music in Sheffield, the downside is it's hard to leave the store with money in your pocket as they have so much good gear!
  14. Wasn't aware of Lyn Collins until hearing her last week on the radio, so great to hear her again so soon after 👍
  15. I was just about to post something similar... That Bass you have looks very interesting. Not one for the masses, but certainly one I would consider a 'players' instrument. I should imagine that it plays and sounds great! 👍
  16. So I’ve just had a 2018 American original P bass delivered and it’s outstanding... big fat neck, plays beautiful.. BUT - the pickups… the 58 split with the two raised poles under the A string. It doesn’t work for me… I play stainless steel strings and the A string is ridiculously loud in comparison to the others. (I have set it up to accommodate it but I’m not happy). Here’s the thing …. The a string has a much more clanky, clear and aggressive tone the other strings which kind of sound sterile and dull in comparison. I’m looking for a pick up recommendation that will give all four strings the same clank and grind my A string currently has. I still want the classic P bass tone. I don’t want heavy metal type pickups as they lack dynamics. I have another bass with geezer butler EMG in it.. it’s too compressed and smooth- maybe that will help understand the tone I don’t want. thanks guys
  17. I'm in. I'm really hoping I have time to make a headless travel bass with an additional Roland Hex pickup system this year. The design has been in my head for ages, so with a bit of luck I'll go out when I buy the headless bits 😁
  18. This box has a set of three Speakon connectors wired in parallel (using pins 1 & 2) so can be used as an extender for speaker cables, or to allow two cabs to be driven from the same amp One connector at one end and two at the other end The box is made from very solid extruded aluminium
  19. I bought this very well upholstered Gator gig bag (current retail £135) for my Guild Starfire bass, but although it fits, its a bit tighter lengthwise than seems sensible, so this has barely been used. It is fairly obviously sized for a Gibson 335 guitar, but will also fit a flying V or a short-scale bass that's a fraction smaller than a Starfire Loads of padding, loads of pockets and a waterproof cover (in pocket 6 on the back, I think - depends how you count the pockets) The padding at the base of the bag can be removed (its on velcro) to give a couple of cm extra space - the quoted overall internal length is without this extra padding fitted Pickup preferred, but I will post it, although I haven't worked out what that would cost, let me know if you're interested and I'll get a price. Internal size: Overall Length: 46.1" (117.09 cm) Body Length: 25.0" (63.5 cm) Body Height: 3.5" (8.89 cm) Lower Bout Width: 17.3" (43.94 cm) Middle Bout Width: 15.4" (39.12 cm) Upper Bout Width: 13.0" (33.02 cm) Exterior Dimensions: Length: 47.8" (121.41 cm) Width: 18.3" (46.48 cm) Height: 6.9" (17.53 cm)

  21. Yeah I contacted one, very quick reply and for a guitar I have they said they’d give £435 as they’d sell for £650 but when I actually searched they’d sold similar modes for more like £700-800. I’ve never even heard of bass bros. Seems like I need to do some serious research. I only even thought about it cuz Facebook started shoving it down my throat!
  22. LA Audio high quality active DI box, very solid construction; comes with an instruction leaflet - which is worth reading since the box is deceptively versatile! This works off an 18v rail so can cope with high or low level signals. Power via phantom from your mixer or 2 x 9v batteries Usefully it has a +20db switch to increase the level of low output devices and with 1M ohm input impedance is compatible with piezo pickups The Input will work with Instrument or Speaker levels ('Pad' switch is for speaker level), isolated XLR output for your mixer and a 'link' output to take the signal on to an amp or cab A separate unbalanced output is available as well as the balanced XLR
  23. In a world record for me, no basses for 4 months. Although this is since getting my Dingwall ABZ and it being the epitome of perfection. I guarantee I am at my limit, however will enter 2026 with this mindset, for a limited time.
  24. I have made it to the end and I'm not even tempted. No, I've not looked at Anderton's sale just yet, but the next six hours can easily be held off for.
  25. I'd like to see if I can manage this coming year without multiple tier 2 fails again.
