  2. Yeah you can't stack too many on any particular pair of rows without it having a moan at you
  3. Just to throw another option into the mix - consider a cheaper multi-effect unit (like Zoom or others). Useful if she wants to try out different sounds - may not be quite as nice sounding as the options above, but in the context of a band mix, probably close enough (and gives more flexibility). Then when you know what you want, there is always the infamous basschat marketplace Phil
  4. Don't forget the ultra-light Rotosound Funkmaster strings!
  5. Agreed, I've been in a lot of bands, and have fallen out with a lot of people in them - some of who I'm still great friends with and with who we still occasionally have a damn good laugh about it all, a couple of others I never spoke to again - and as the result have left a lot of bands over the years and also seen many others leave. But I've never been sacked and never sacked anyone, just seems an odd thing to do in a band....

  7. I guess I'm fortunate with my lead vox then, haha! The two of the three female lead singers who have been using SM58s were both completely sold on our live performance experience of Set 1 being plagued by feedback, and then Set 2 being feedback-free with just one change to the set up at the interval: swapping-out their SM58 for my AKG D7S!
  8. I'd find a D,E and F and start a new band with them. Maybe get a horn section in with G, H and I and find a couple of backing singers (J and K). While you're at it, decimalise the music scale and create two new notes, H and I. Sorted.
  9. Yeah, I think asking someone who has used the SM58 to change mics would be like asking Brian May to change guitars I have to say though that if anyone is going to spend a digital mixer is probably going to make a bigger difference to the sound than changing the mics. My mixer is pretty basic and I've got four band parametric eq, compression, gating, reverb delay and detuning on every mic channel, plus a lot of stuff I've never even looked at. The pre's are audibly better than my old Yamaha MG desk too. Tweaking eq is much more intuitive and best of all I can save anything that works well. I'm intrigued by the Shure SM86, it's a lot cheaper than I was expecting, cheaper than the E935. I'm wondering if I should have looked at that first.
  10. The new SVT models are killer and the new cab IRs are much more characterful, much like the best of the 3rd party captures that you can find on the cloud. The GED2112 models are cracking too, I had the pre-amp for a while, really captures the tone well. Looks like a very good update all round but I do wonder at the significant DSP overheads of these new models, even in a unit with processing to burn.
  11. Yeah probably semantics? If someone's asked to leave a band against his or her wishes, by their bandmates that's a "sacking" in my books, even if it's done in a civil manner. But, as you say, it really should start with a grown-up chat if at all possible.
  12. Hi folks, for sale is my awesome Fender Custom Shop Jaco Pastorius from 2024. I have to thin out the herd and that‘s why I want to sell some basses. After years of buying, selling and trading it‘s time to "settle down" with just a 2 or 3 basses. This bass is in very good condition, purrs like a kitten and can sing like a bird! Wasn't played that much. Some tiny signs of wear on the fretboard. Electronics and truss-rod work with no issues. Comes with the original case and all the candies. Pick up is preferred, but maybe I can shipping to buyer's expense and risks. Maybe we can meet in person somewhere on half distance. If you need more pictures let me know. No warranty, no return and no guarantee because I am a private seller. But all informations is provided to the best of my knowledge and belief. I am open to trades, but there are only a few basses that I am interested in. Maybe Adamovic 6 String, Mattison; Ken Smith BSR 6 String, but you can try to lead my into temptation. (In case of trading we have to meet in person, no shipping!) Price is 4100 Euro.

  13. Hi Ovi, thanks! Nice to hear from you! Are you back in bass business? This bass could be yours 😜
  14. Sure is a lovely looking bass. I hope you find a buyer. My first alembic was a SC signature and in recent years I got a new loom from alembic to convert it to anniversary electronics. Truly great basses.
  15. The monosynth is pretty silly:
  16. Bowie alumni Carlos Alomar, Dennis Murray and Kevin Armstrong doing the DAM Trilogy show at the Barbican on Friday https://www.barbican.org.uk/whats-on/2025/event/the-d-a-m-trilogy "David Bowie’s right-hand-musicians during his late-1970’s Berlin period mark the legacy of the albums they made together with the faster songs from Low, Heroes and Lodger as the focus of the evening" - unfortunate news for the fans of Sense Of Doubt and Warszawa there. There's some great content from Kevin Armstrong's facebook tour diary, beware setlist spoilers though: https://www.facebook.com/kevinalexanderarmstrong
  17. Most of which, among decent people, are the cue for a grown-up conversation and an amicable - or at least civil - parting of the ways, not a sacking. Perhaps it's semantics?
  18. Ouch, I had the same problem a few years back, not sure I can help much, but I can empathise
  19. (sigh)...that went well. You have to download it to see it I think...
  20. That is awesome. Also, that pic of the maple bass with black triangles and stars on the fretboard is the same as mine. Who knows, it might even be mine? He made so much really cool, interesting stuff. I'll attach a pic of mine below.. JB.pdf
  21. Actually - just did what I should've done when the original thread was posted - and look: https://auctions.gardinerhoulgate.co.uk/catalogue/lot/882974bf7db6720157926c6e60ceb460/63b778f7668dabe928d3800924a99077/the-guitar-auction-four-day-sale-including-guitars-e-lot-267/ Sold for £620 (exc. fees) in March last year. So - did the buyer whip out the original Superfluxes, spend £5 on some plastic for a cover plate & then try to flip it for a profit - or are there two black fretless JB Tbirds with no logo out there, turning up within 18 months of each other?
  22. Two basic student bows for beginners, both made in Seoul, one at 115 grams the other at 127.4 grams. Hair hasn’t been used (except just to test the bows). Ideal for beginners as they are light and good for a student developing their hand strength. Happy to post anywhere or do a deal for the both. £65 each. (Excluding postage) happy bassing.
  23. Found a scan of an old JB catalogue from 1977. Interestingly there is a TB (page 10) but I'm not completely convinced the Gumtree fretless is the same. Body shape & control positions look a little different - although considering pics of both are pretty terrible, it's hard to be sure. http://vintage.catalogs.free.fr/johnbirch.pdf Worth a look for the plethroa of curious & downright bizarre stuff John did back then!
  24. My one - and I'd be interested to hear from anyone else that has one to compare notes- has very little mass around the heel of the neck, consequently the neck can be pulled forward making the action a bit high. I've ameliorated this a little by using low tension flats but it is definitely an issue with my bass, I'd be interested to know if anyone else has experienced anything similar?
  25. These strings are not made anymore I knew the risks when I got a couple sets on here recently. Maybe it’s just because they are different? But I really like them swapped out my Spiros and all of a sudden my bass is alive again I really like them and want to find a really good replacement set. Looking around I can see people saying a mixed set of Evah E A with Oliv D G or the Evah Slaps with gut DG I have Evah E A I can try but not convinced they are anything like the Animas i have tried Spiro Weich E A with Evah weich D G and worked well but sounded weak compared to the Animas. looking for opinions and advice on strings I can try. thanks
  26. Tbf bands, including amateur ones, sack band members all the time, right? Sometimes a band member just doesn't click, isn't cutting it or prepared to put in as much as other band mates to grow the project etc. There's a myriad of reasons. But the point about treating people how you would want to be treated is absolutely the right one: pretty sure that A would hate the rest of the band treating him the way he's treating B?
