SimonK started following The Great Bass Census

Nothing like a necro bump thread: First Bass Owned: Aria Pro with a musicman humbucker (prior to this I borrowed/played a load of crappy basses from my school/friends etc.) 'Go To' Bass: Warwick Streamer 5 (mainly as it's my latest acquisition) 'Your' Bass: Musicman Stingray 3EQ - certainly the one I feel most comfortable playing and have my rig dialled in.

Bought new from Bass Direct 10 months ago. Beautiful playing bass and comes with gig bag. Hardcore reliced instrument but no dings since purchase. Neck is smooth (see pics). Bought for theatre tour that has now ended. Spent time in hard case in the car or stand on stage - well looked after. Looking for sale, not trade. £1900 based in Wolverhampton, West Mids. Will drive reasonable distance to meet or I have materials to double-pack item well if you'd like to arrange courier. more expensive but I've had great results with the Origin Effects bass Rig pedals. Even tho I'm an SVT man at heart I actually prefer the sound of the Black Face 64 one. Awesome pedal

Chienmortbb started following Ampeg

Ampeg were a great company but time. and tech moves on. I never got the Ampeg Bug although I loved Trace Gear. I think Peavey have honoured the Trace legacy despite my initial fears. Like Trace, Ampeg have limped from owner to owner with none really taking tha brand seriously. Portaflex was a disaster, it took almost ten PF500 iterations before the amps were right, meaning you cannot trust them. I don’t think Trace ever had such a problem but the name of Ampeg went from top dog to has been rapidly and are now a brand rather than a make.

I'm really toying with the idea of getting another valve amp. Stage volume wise we are quite a sensible band and rely a lot on the PA to give the FOH volume. I genuinely think i could probably get away with an Ashdown CTM30/Little Bastard but recently I've looked into an old Bassman 135 as I see you can run 1 x 8ohm cab off the extension output and they also have a line out for FOH. In an ideal world id love to get my hand on one of those EBS T90's but can never find one

Differences between fretted and fretless are greater with slap that other styles - frets have a hug effect on slap tone - but I'd argue it's less a case of 'doesn't work particularly well' and more a case of 'works very well when used appropriately', one example for me being Bakithi Kumalo on the Graceland album (I may be repeating myself here) 👍

Stunning!

I must admit I don’t care for the look of the Venture amps I think as a new design they could of come up with a nicer and less wide design

You missed me! -
I agree and would add Sade to that short list.

The only thing that doesn't work particularly well on a fretless is slap. I "could" play pretty much anything else on my fretless, although often it's easier to just go for a fretted bass if I'm not after mwah in particular.

I've just spent nearly an hour searching for a very specific three way toggle switch online. Cheapest ebay sellers in the US were asking 7 quid. UK sellers online were asking twenty quid. I found a seller here in China offering them for 40p each. I'm speechless.

Currently in the process of downsizing my live setup so this is next on the block! Temple audio duo 17 with red sides - a couple of the holes have been widened for previous configurations, in the end if switched to 3m dual lock so there's foamy leftovers on the top but this will scrub off! Included is the Harley Benton AC power supply with the temple audio switched AC mod for easy access Also included is the temple audio di mod I will leave on the led strip lights, just cheapo Amazon job but they do the trick And lastly it comes with a well fitted abs case For the whole package I've put £200 but make me an offer 😊

Re fretless playing, it's all horses for courses of course, but for me, I play fretless and fretted very similarly as opposed to seeing each as needing a specific style/technique/genre - I often use fretless at rehearsal and gigs playing ostensible 'standard' bass parts, and always enjoy when someone says "I didn't realise you were playing fretless" (our keys player being a great example, I'd been playing fretless every week for three months before he noticed), which to my mind is far more of a compliment than producing lots of slides and double stops etc and having people say "I love the sound of fretless bass".

Stuff arrived! However, the paint isn't quite as smooth as I'd like it, so there's a little more sanding/painting to do first.
