  1. Past hour
  2. True, but I didn't see any excessive cone movement before I used the Thumpinator. I assumed the amp had an internal HPF (which many do) which was doing the job for me.
  3. There was nothing in my post to suggest struggling with a 5 string over a 4 string if the 4 is easier to play.
  4. That's kinda the point of them isn't it? The idea is that they take out inaudible sub-bass frequencies, thereby making your amp more efficient and making it easier to get a decent sound in bass-trap rooms.
  5. I sometimes wonder myself!
  6. I have three five strings. They have their uses, but why use a Stanley knife for jobs you can do easier with a scalpel?
  7. oOps, just realised where you're coming from😔
  8. I think if you don't look at least a little bit ridiculous on stage then you're doing it entirely wrong! Preferably more than just a little too...
  9. I've got a vintera precision, about six months old.my problem is the d string buzzes on the lower frets.to stop it I have to add really high relief, but the frets choke out on the highest frets.its also digustingly crap to play.if I set relief to .30mm at the eighth fret and action at 5/64ths on E at the 17th fret,it plays beautifully everywhere except for the D at the low frets.ive since levelled the frets and it's still doing it.ive tried three different sets of strings,la bella ,ghs precision and fender flats.im at a loss.any ideas?
  10. Hmm. It may not be the basses fault in my case either…
  11. I just remembered i still have a couple of Zoom multi FX. I guess i might give those a go. I can then program in a volume change.
  12. I'm 1m80cm, c.90kg with broad shoulders. I play a P, and I look ridiculous, too. In all honesty I don't think the P has much to do with the ridiculousness, in my case!
  13. In 5/4..?
  14. Something with a walking bass-line..?
  15. Today
  16. Yeah, just a bit lol.
  17. Thanks. Ive had the Source Audio stuff in the past but never really gelled with them. Too many options, and quite expensive.
  18. It's odd how my Kelly is one of the biggest basses you'll ever see, and is actually surprisingly very light. My Yamaha BB feels heavier! And comparatively that Jackson bird looks like a smaller body but weighs a ton. Is it made of mahogany?
  19. We were recording our album and I was tracking. Went for a take, and silence. Checked lead to pedal, checked pedal, checked lead coming out of pedal. Engineer started making checks his end. Turned out I'd turned down the volume knob on my bass.
  20. Or Source Audio Lunar (or Mercury or Gemini), though volume control is only via the app when creating presets, which is a bit frustrating.
  21. I looked in my parts bin, as for some reason I kept the truss rod when I binned the neck from my old OLP MM2, but sadly I think I decided "what possible use could anyone have for an old OLP truss rod" and threw it away a few months ago. That said, I remember the spoke wheel being welded on, so perhaps it was a different design. If the adaptor doesn't fit, you can always try pulling the truss rod out and replacing it. They're double action rods in a straight rectangular channel – you can generally pull the out if there's no tension on them.
  22. Behringer BM13 but it’s enormous.
  23. Would consider trades for a medium or short scale something, or a EUB. What do you have?
  24. I love the pic , I’ll get something , but not banking on picking the photo next month 😁
  25. Excuse the non bass anecdote, but it was an embarrassing rookie error. (and excuse the name drop...) While still a studio assistant early '80s, I had to run a session for Heaven 17 who were recording some demos. The engineer who I mainly worked with had a line in cheeky phrases that he could get away with and would always get a laugh. So we ran through a lead vocal with Glen Gregory. No issues, all fine. However, I thought I'd try a cheeky remark, you know, as you do when you think you're above your station. "that was great Glen, thanks. If you'd lke to leave your name and number in the bin on the way out" It didn't really go down as well as expected! I was rather embarrassed, but had to balls it out.
  26. Haven't done one of these for a year (or two?), I'd love to give this a go if I can find the time.
