Mondo Generator are worth seeing if you get the chance. They play a load of their own stuff plus the Kyuss songs he recorded and they're really good. Nick and the band are pretty cool as well, they hang out with the fans before and after and watch support bands from the crowd as well.

To me vintage tone is characterised by lower impedance windings and modest strength magnets giving a lower output with more middle and top end without being harsh. This gives a richer sound but you need to crank the gain more.

That brings back some memories, or fragments anyway. Never really got around to listening to any albums (maybe I shohld rectify that) but an absolute must see at any festival in the 90s

It sounds like complete open circuit to me. I suppose I could put a micrometer on the plug...

uk_lefty started following NBD: Ibanez 80s goodness

I started up an 80s band some time ago. We are still "forming" finding the right songs and so forth but it's feeling good. So I wanted an 80s bass and having sold off three basses at the end of last year I was feeling good and came across an Ibanez Musician from 1980, fully original. Struck a deal and it was delivered yesterday by the owner and used last night at band practice. First impressions: chunkier neck than I'm used to but not unmanageable. Weight is ok and a decent strap. Lots of knobs! These are a bit excessive I think: vol vol tone, three way pup selector, active/ passive switch, bass, mid, treble... So for ease of use it's both pups on full then using the active to find the sound. I played through an Ampeg head and Trace cab with the EQ relatively flat. This bass cuts through the mix! Gorgeous consistency all over the neck in terms of tone and volume, lovely for high fills, really nice sound for finger pops that I can't seem to get with other basses. So far I'm chuffed. Terrible photo, but I've been too busy playing it to just admire it.

What new gear should be produced?

All this talk of Gibson has got me thinking about Epiphone taking some risks. They could do some multiscale 4/5 string RD Artist basses with some weird electronics. -
Same with the Ozrics! Excellent gigs...

IMO pretty much any modern bass will be well-made enough to be more than useable for recording. Go and try a load and buy the one that suits you the best.

⬆️ this….. A Squire CV P is a great choice, but it should be a bass that feels comfortable and sounds good to you. There are SO many options these days, at very sensible prices, I would try a bunch if you can. If you aren’t in a position to try stuff, the Squire is a good gamble.

I used to think the same about Classic FM's 'Hall of Fame' 300. Then I joined a Facebook group for choir members and as the Hall of Fame voting came around there they were - deciding which obscure piece they would all vote for this year and congratulating themselves at last year's success at getting an obscure piece in as a new entry at 180 or something. -

Just crunched the first 256 songs. The average year is 1983 (so far) The band with the most is Queen with 13, followed by Black Sabbath with 8 and AC/DC with 8 Rob -
I went to Snoop Dogg gig in Nottingham just before the smoking ban. That was like stepping inside a bong. No way did anyone leave that venue unaffected by at least passive intake.

What can I say about this pedal that hasn't already been said? Super cool and unique filter used by Flea and lots of other people. No other filter I've come across sounds quite like this little green beast, and it also does the famous "dub trick" of turning your bass into a subby monster by turning off the sensitivity so the filter doesn't open. It's been well used in it's ~30 year lifetime with a few bumps and scrapes in the finish, but all is working as it should. Somehow the notoriously "difficult to keep hold of" battery door is still intact on this one! No velcro, and rear sticker with serial number still intact also. Really cool pedal that I owned a number of years ago, and wanted to revisit it out of nostalgia! I've had my fun with it here at home, and now it's time to pass it on. Boss to 3.5mm power adaptor included. Looking for exactly what I paid for it from here a few weeks ago: £60. Add a £5er for delivery, or can be picked up from Ickenham NW London.

Yeah, I might as well wish to see the Beatles, really.
