Althought this will go in the "For Sale" section shortly, I am selling my Stingray 5 if anyone is interested, it's in absolute mint condtns, had it from new in 2002, not even a scratch to it, as I keep all my instruments mint. Translucent Red on ash body with nice visible wood texture, maple neck, original MM case and all the trimmings.

gives us a pm if interested.
Great looking bass - not seen a pickguard like that before - looks ace.

OOh Gawd! Not another Pre vs Post EB MM argument!!!!! I've owned both and they were both good and, (bizarrely enough), both sounded just like a MusicMan Bass!!!!

The differences seem to be as big or small as the issues of the players are, ie. if you paid an absolute fortune for a super vintage Pre EB then you're likely to be looking for (and hearing) a vast improvement over an EB version. They're brilliant basses, not everyone's cuppa but I firmly believe every bass player should own one at some time in their lives. I went back to a Precision after my two but still have fond memories of both.

All will sound like a Stingray, and only a player who is quite aware of Stingrays will realise the difference in the 2 vs 3 EQ. Both are great.

I have sold 2 recently and regret one of them, as it had sentimental value. But, I have rectified that and ordered one in my favorite colour.
I was trying a dirt pedal out in Dolphin Liverpool this afternoon and used a Stingray as it was about the nearest I could get to my bass (hot actives). It was a 4 string, all
wood body maple? - I think it was going for between £1600 - £1700. God it was nice to play - and sounded totally awesome too. I didn't like the pedal and ended up playing the bass clean for half an hour. It made me really, really want it. I could see the 0% finance offer but the inevitable reality check fought off the urge.

I'm seriously happy with the bass I have - just wish I had tonnes of money so I could buy more. Sweet, sweet bass!
my sr5 was the best of all basses i have had..3band eq and in white on white

i have had ric, manson custom, fender p special, the sr and now a yamaha middly 4
I'm loving the Stingray vibe and was wondering (this seems like the thread to ask on) if there is a short scale version of any of their instrument range?
Silhouette

It's a MusicMan with a 29-5/8" scale but with 6 strings and guitar pickups probably the only thing close to the Stingray vibe is the name on the headstock! More like a Fender Bass VI. Looks cool though - if I had limitless resources I'd have one but presumably you're after a proper Stingray with a shorter scale?

Get it in the stingray porn thread then when it arives! Lots of love out there for white basses at the moment (EBS_Freak) but after seeing Larry graham at koko a few weeks ago I can see why, His bass does look really cool but then he is too!

What I don't understand us the crazy second hand market on Rays. Fair enough, most of them are just normal late 90s/early 00s, and don't have the new nut or pickup options, but £600-700 for a mint condition Ray is just madness. I think there has been in a lull in popularity but they are slowly coming back.

Luckily because of the condition of mine I got a fair price on them, but ive seen some going for less than £600 on here. Madness!

QED http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=90789 Not quite as low as £600, but still great VFM.

EDIT Not mine and not anyone I know, I just saw these this morning.

2 of them are mine that I sold to Jim, and they literally are almost fresh from factory condition :)

I sure hope someone realises they are a bargain
I spent the last 8 years with the Ernie Ball mate and I still love it dont get me wrong but it took all of 3 minutes of hearing a pre EB through someone elses amp etc to realise the pre sounds better.I think Im wishing I had gone for a 2 band when I purchased the EB but I was a lot younger then and I presumed more is better but it looks as though that is not always the case? Theres a lot of love for the 2 band out there which remains true to the original simple circuit I have in my pre whereas the 3 band has a modern green pcb.I might even swap it and keep all the 3 band bits safe if a cheap 2 band control plate comes my way. What is your experience with the sounds of a pre most people that say they prefer the newer ones have never heard a pre EB. :)
I've had 20 years pretty much with at least one mm in the fleet. 2eq, 3eq pre and post EB, fretted and fretless. In the end, as someone has already said, it's all down to personal opinion.

In my opinion the best Ray I've played is the 30th but I assume some of that may be due to the woods.

For fretted I prefer 3eq because I like the added flexibility in a live situation. For fretless I prefer 2eq as it seems to sing better in the lower register.

I don't cuurently own a pre-EB, if I could find a good one that impressed me as much as the EB I have then I'd consider it but I don't think I'd be prepared to pay a £500 premium for the priviledge.

That sums it up quite well ,In your opinion unless the right pre EB comes your way you would not part with the extra £500,To others they would not part with the extra cash for a Limited edition even an important an genuinely different one like a 30th,(again unless something just clicked)Which shows just how good value for money a bog standard EB in whatever colour comes your way really is.There really are little differences between them all. After your first its just a reason for buying more and all the better for it,Thats why they make LE's in the first place to tempt people who already know 99% of what they are buying.
I certainley would not sell my EB at the rock bottom prices that are out there and maybe a few who do will regret it?For those who have not got one at all "get 'em while they're cheap!"

Got any pics of this 30th? they make me go all funny! Now wheres that lottery ticket?

I agree, I got a 'good' price for mine and they deserved it, but I regret selling one of them! Never mind. Im hoping the next 3 EBMMs I have coming are all keepers like the Fenders Ive got. Then Im DONE with buying.

I've just 'rediscovered' Stingrays and forgot just how much I like the noise they make. This one is my fifth or sixth and first 3eq pre. I have the mid set to centre and TBH it doesn't sound any different to the 2eq. The build quality has always impressed me although the pre-EB I owned was very heavy. My first one was a 1989 (I think) that I got from Musical Exchanges in Birmingham in 1995 which I kept for almost ten years. My favorite one was a battered white/maple '86 which I was mad to sell. This black one is a pretty newish one and is an absolute peach.

Nice! Black/maple or White/maple is always a good combo.
