Got it! Ordered Sunday afternoon arrived this morning at 8.35am.

First impressions are very good. Looks great and although I haven't taken a magnifying glass to it yet, build quality is certainly up there with my Aerodyne. In fact, it is a bit of an Aerodyne killer. The action is certainly lower, to my eyes it looks better due to the block inlays and it feels a little bit lighter too. However I sold the Aerodyne a few years ago so I can't do a direct comparison.

As you would expect I feel it might be the electronics that let it down. It sounds a teeney weeney bit lifeless to me but that is just as likely to be the factory strings as anything else. I won't know for sure until I record some soundclips.

Again, these are first impressions. Opinions are prone to change!

:)

Soundclips!!

I am recovering from man-flu and I couldn't find/be bothered to look for enough leads to monitor the recording.

So apologies for sloppiness, length, content and rubbishness.
Sounds like a really nice honest bass, Paul. I agree with you in that it could do with some different strings by the sound of it. If you're keeping the action that low you'll need to play a little less aggressively, though

Nice sounding bass for not much money. Good choice :)
Cheers OTPJ. I think I will get some D'Addarios on it at some point. I was toying with raising the action a touch but I do like a little bit of buzz and rattle when I dig in!
Here is another sound sample. Fingerstyle this time and with other instruments. I realise I am totally rubbish at soundclips.

Thanks for putting your reputation on the line! I think you should be proud of your playing (although I go along with OutToPlayJazz's comment about going easy on a low action. I love the action to be as low as possible and to barely touch the strings. I even lost my callouses along the way!). Recording and playing live are like two different disciplines to me, I actually raise the action for recording to avoid any buzzing as I'm able to concentrate harder on my fingering and its all scrutinised so much. So easy with flats - if you can use the tone.

Bass sounds great, really like the J slap tone.

Must say I'm tempted by a Stingray (Sabre, really with those 2 pups) that looks like a Rick, but then it isn't active, which is, kind of, the heart of the Stingray sound. Would be more tempted if it was. I think they look great with those big pups.

Just listened to the clip again with my sub woofer unplugged...I see what you both mean! Rattle city! The extra bass from the sub had hidden most of the buzz.

A lighter touch it is then!

:)

EDIT: Just added a cleaner version of the bass part in the bass porn forum.

Just a quick heads up that the price of these appears to have dropped to £249 putting them well into bargain territory. I am not peeved that I paid £300. Not at all.

Just added some proper soundclips here...
I want one too ...

Me too, and compared to the 4001's it's got a heads start already, tuner's that will work and bridge that will do the job sonically.

Looking at the pic with the guy, you can see the shorter scale. Whats this all about??, is it a copyright thing perhaps.
