How about one of these. I have one which used to support the very heavy synth and sampler rack for a previous band. Fantastically strong and well made, not cheap but worth every penny.
I'm liking that! Used to sell loads of their brass and woodwind stands in a previous shop - great quality. Will check it out tomorrow.

Cheers. :)

No no no no no

You want one of these

http://www.k-m.de/TABLE-STYLE-KEYBOARD-STA...76c92ce0.0.html

http://www.thomann.de/gb/km_18950.htm

I inadvertantly bought 2 but only needed one for a keyboard (don't ask). I am 6'2" and my 3x10" hits me square between my shoulderblades.

These are supposed to be the beans:-

Pretty expensive, but I know of at least one bassist who swears by them (under his Berg hs410 IIRC).

I'd love to get one, but they are seriously not cheap!

Buy a flight case for the amp / cab and when you play sit them on top.

something like this, if you email the seller he will have one for every size http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ASHDOWN-ABM-410T-GUI...=item588696ff6f

I put my amp rack beetween my cabs so I have one over, one under. It lifts the top cab somewhat. Not to ear level though.
Maybe something like that.

However I think IEM's are going to be a better long term solution. You may even be able to do away with your backline entirely.
Good suggestions. I've looked at amp stands but the cabs are pretty deep. I'll take another look.

Thanks for that. :)
The one i use is a Giraffe stand, it's comfortable with my parctice cab on which is 15"x20"x18" (lxhxd) . Your MB cabs are a little squarer but a similar volume. Also used it with my Schroeder 1212 which was really stable
Cheers. If the cab is too low, I just hear the low end and not the note definition.

Any beginners out there, get some earplugs. You be thankful in years to come.
Have you visited an audiologist?

Excess ear wax (which absorbs the mids our ears are most sensitive to) is produced in response to prolonged exposure to LOUD sounds.

As well, most bass cabs are rather directional in the upper midrange and highs anyhow.

I once installed Fender Twin Reverb tilt-back legs on a 15" TL cab so that I could better hear the fretless P I was gigging at the time.

I've had my ears tested a few times and they reckon it's not wax but damage due to years of being pummelled by extreme noise, especially standing next to cymbals.

I've considered digital hearing aids but they are a bit pricey for me at the mo.

'Same here. Cramped stages... My right ear no longer hears mids very well.

All you younger players out there would do well to invest in good hearing protection--seriously.

I strongly agree with this. I can guarantee your hearing will be f***ed in years to come. I hate wearing plugs, but for anyone who also does so, we've just taken stock of some plugs that work in a different way. Rather than block all the sound, they only work when a very loud sound is inputted, and then close during that time. I haven't tried them yet but will report as and when.

Will post a link later.

And don't always rehearse loud...
If you are learning stuff or working out arrangements make a conscious decision to rehearse more quietly. Then arrange rehearsals when you do play at gigging levels to check things like amp settings, foot pedals etc that only really work at volume.
Use earplugs then for sure.

I wear these for everything noisy now, including pushing the vacuum cleaner around at home: http://www.surefire.com/EP3-Sonic-Defenders

I find that I can actually hear my bass better with them in, and when I take them out at the end of a practice or a gig, it's like nothing has happened as far as my ears are concerned. Plus I find that they stay in really well, compared to the to the etymotic ER-20's I've also tried.

I'm only 25 and already have tinnitus permanently. Shame I didn't think about ear damage when I was loads younger, but it's not the top thing on a 10 year old's mind. My hearing's not too bad, just the tinnitus masks high frequencies. As far as I know, I don't actually have any hearing loss. I ALWAYS use earplugs now though at gigs (not always soundchecks though, need to change that really) and my ears are much better for it. Never have bad tinnitus afterwards etc.

As for the lack of beer crates, have you thought about getting a smaller cab (1x10 or something) that you can use as a personal monitor. If you have a friend who can engineer you some kind of stand, does it have to actually fix into the cab or can you have him make some kind of tray that the cab fits in and you just sit it on top? I'd be quite wary personally about lifting my cab off the floor because of the changes it makes to sound, each to their own though. :)

A couple of these will do it:-

http://www.reallyusefulproducts.co.uk/uk/

After all you can put a mini on four of them - they are really strong - or you can buy the extra strong variant if you dont feel secure.

Then you can bung all your leads and kipple in them after the gig...

When I bought my PA tripods they came with some top hat sockets that could be screwed onto cabs. or you could make a platform to put your cab on with a top hat socket attached. Luggage strap it all together for stability and you are sorted.

Bloody nora!

Wouldnt risk that with my rig, unless the stands resembled the Eiffel Tower, which would in itself possibly cause some other issues....
