Cheers! :) Aye I use enamel spray paint. At the minute, budget limits me to spray cans, a compressor is on my Christmas list, though my Christmas list is pretty long...

NoirBass - what are the fuzz and blend circuits you'll be using? Switching may depend on the type of fuzz to get the best out of it is all.

I'm trying to blend a Big Muff circuit with this blender:

Many thanks for your help.

Ho ho! Meatball clone (mostly) working! Haven't had much of a chance to look at it for a few weeks. Unfortunately the inverting gain stages I've added on the hp and lp outputs aren't working... Something to have a look at tomorrow. Should be something simple (he says with fingers crossed)! The bp output sounds pretty good although not as fat as I'd like - so lp is where it's at for me I think.

You may get popping switching that in and out. What I would probably do is leave the input/send and just concentrate on switching the BM output and the mix pot output, while at the same time taking the mix pot out of the equation with one of the other poles on the switch. Jumper the Level trimpot on the blend PCB, you've already got the BM Level control so won't need this.

Cheers for the advice TG, I'll jumper the trim pot.

This is starting to fry my head a bit. I'm trying to use this diagram as a starting point:

http://www.sabrotone.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Layout_circuit_w_addon.gif

but I can't figure out how to get the clean signal to the blender.

That switching scheme won't work for this application. From your bypass switch, you need to run to the clean-blend PCB. The additional switch to turn on and off the clean blend isn't a bypass switch, you use it only to switch the output - either fuzz or fuzz and blend. Assuming you're using a 3PDT blue switch, you'll probably use one pole for LED indication, one to switch between lug 2 on the blend pot and the BM output (for blended fuzz or just fuzz, respectively), and the final one to disconnect lug 3 of the blend pot from the output of the BM when not wanting clean blend. I'll draw it out when I get chance today or over the weekend!

Sorry, busy weekend, back in the office now and desperately avoiding doing the dayjob. Quick sketch of how you could look at wiring this up.

Input jack to bypass switch, bypass switch to the in on the blend PCB, Send from the blend PCB to the in of the BM PCB.

I've not wired this up, and it's merely an example of how to use the PCB's you've got there. I'd be tempted to also look at opamps and summing amplifiers, as well as googling "panning for fun" from Geofex!

Hope that helps, report back! :)

Had some fun deliveries today.
New soldering iron, new "helping hands", some perfboards and some Mullard OA91 Germanium diodes from the late 60s...

now I just need a few kids free hours...
shame you can't buy that on ebay...

 • 1 month later...

Always wanted a full toned bass distortion pedal that didn't lose any bottom end. A good friend of my who builds pedals occasionally recommended the Ezekiel 25:17 for a clone option

Used it a last week at probably one of the biggest shows I have done and it sounded awesome in every sense.

Loads of low end a pretty cool Blend on the right hand side as a foot control to take the distortion in or out.

Great pedal. Really like your take on it as well!

I must build one of those Ezekiel's too.

Sorry for not having posted recently, but have been busy making pedals :-)

Since my last post I've managed to complete 2 RAT's, Colorsound Bass Fuzz, Big Muff (never got round to putting the clean blend in it), Dyna Comp, Keeley 4 Knob Comp, Zen Drive, Red Llama, Sparkle Drive, Tubescreamer, A couple of utility boxes and today I finished a Greedtone OD.

I'm addicted!

...wish I had your free time. 2 young kids and a hectic job are making it hard to get anything done. I've even resorted to kits to speed things up, but can't even get time to get those started (ggg tuned muff, rc booster and bb preamp based on pedalparts kits and some mods).

Have been using any spare minute (including 3am baby feeds) thinking about custom circuit combinations....

Free time is short for me too. I have an 18 month old son, so I feel your pain. We are out of the 3am feeds though.

I have built all of these whilst he has his afternoon nap, which is usually a 1 - 2 hour window.

Think there are many of us parent DIYers.

Best of luck getting some time.

Here's my Feedback Looper / Killswitch :

Right footswitch (true bypass) puts fx loop ON : signal from in to send and return to output
Toggle switch :continuous feedback mode (left position) or single loop only (right pos)
LED bicolor : Red in feedback mode, Green in single loop mode
Pot : feedback level.
Left footswitch is momentary :
- If fx loop is ON : activates momentary feedback (toggle switch = right position) or stop it momentary (left position)
- If fx loop is OFF : « kills » signal, no output

Finished a 'Jimi' spec Fuzz Face:

BC109C transistors
Negative ground.
Sounds great, although kinda wished I'd placed the Bias on a knob.....oh well, next one ;)
Enclosure finishing next.

Its fantastic man. To be honest, never liked bass distortion until I heard this pedal :)

I'm about to build a copy of the Catalinbread SFT using this ready-made PCB from madbeanpedals:

As you can see, there's no spare room for drilling holes for mounting screws and the pots aren't board mounted. Any tips?

Picture mounting sticky foam is a good one in a bind like this. It's like double-sided tape but gives you a bit of distance between board and enclosure. Ebay is dirt cheap, or you can get it from Poundland/Poundstretcher/B&M - any budget home store. You can get little PCB slots with adhesive on them, but looking at the board I think you'd struggle to get enough of it into the slot to guarantee a good hold. Good luck!
