1. Recent rebuild and some new additions. Flow goes: Tuner>Octave>Hamstead>Chorus>Helix (With Pedalnetics footswitches)>Dispatch Master>EP Booster Keeping my sub/synth all grouped together on the left. Helix is the brain, but I use it heavily between sessions. It's been a revelation especially with presets, snapshots and per bass settings. All powered by GigRig. Whilst I've never had any issues, I don't know if I would go with them again. The Helix needs to be the only system on the distributor, otherwise you get a terrible buzzing sound. So I had to buy 2 isolators to stop that. So by the time I bought all of that, I could've afforded a Cioks. I do love customising the size of the power cables though.
2. Aguilar artist here! Barnes and Noble (https://www.bandm.co.uk/) are the UK distributor for Aguilar. Did you reach out to them at all? Even before my endorsement I had nothing but great service from these guys.
3. I don't really see an issue with a dep or being a dep. If I have been asked to cover someone, it means that see my talent as good as the current bass player. I am there to fill that gig and thats it. Even if it means 6 - 8 gigs, no matter what, its not my gig. I am depping.
4. @paul_h Good to know Paul thank you! Yeh it is more about subtleties, when ever doing 16th stuff or ambient sounds for worship music.
5. @Sibob - Yes. Yes I am. And thank you for your validation.
6. I am looking to replace my Mooer Reecho as its a bit noisy when engaging the pedal and well I fancy a change too! Main uses for it are usually stuff about the 12th fret and just adding a slight bit of echo, not too prominent but to add a bit of colour. Thanks!
7. I have only watched demos of the AG700 in use and while this is no way to really decide on whether or not to purchase it, I wasn't blown away. As an avid fan of the Tonehammer 500, I have been so impressed with its versatility and sound. I received the best compliment last night for my tone as being thick. Put a big smile on my face
8. Two solid thumbs up! I have had two experiences with their team: 1. My Aguilar Tonehammer bag zips broke after only 3 months of use. Got a free replacement after showcasing the issue with Peter (UK rep at Barnes and Mullins Ltd). The current version seems to be fine, but I have a feeling it'll happen again. 2. I have the Tonehammer pedal and the blue LED light is not functioning. I have been offered a free courier to come and pick it up to be repaired. Even when working with the main support in the States, they have very supportive and always have an action point with an e-mail rather than questioning more and delaying the process. Thanks guys!
9. I really don't think you need to go and splash out on specific amps and pedals. Thats a kind of needless expenditure. I recently played in a run of 'Rock of Ages' (80's musical) and my main tone was: P-bass Rotowounds - Pick stuff especially and sounds great with chorus and distortion Chorus pedal - Aguilar chorusarus. But choose one that fits your budget Boss BB1X - High tone turned up. But choose one that fits your budget EQ on Aguilar head - Mid range boosted. That's it. Adjust the tone and settings per song, but I wouldn't make this a massive excursion. Do what sounds right to you.
10. Thanks guys! Was playing a showcase with the Chromes last night and they felt good. really good! But the LaBella's have been added to the shopping cart
11. Specifically looking at the: LaBella 760FL - 43/104 or La Bella 760FS 45/105 for a P-bass Playing style: various - pick, fingers - (pop, funk, rock) I have the D'Addario Chrome flats currently and they are good, but don't have that low thump I want. Also, there feels like there is a coating on them, which restricts my playing, which is why I reverted back to rotowounds for now. Anyone had them/using them? Thoughts/feelings?
12. Doing some Christmas down time reading and wondering if either option is better/preferred etc. I have the Aguilar 500, which has two speakon outputs on the rear. I have been pairing it with an Ampeg PF115HE and an Ampeg 210HE. I am currently just linking them both via a loudspeaker 1/4 - 1/4 jack cable. Is there any difference if I decided to grab 2 speakon cables and connecting both cabs through the head and not linking them with one another?
13. I have the Bose QC25 Over-ear headphones and they have been a fantastic investment for alot of travelling that I do. Only issue is that I am currently on my 3rd pair! Each time one of the ear pieces broke, but Bose's help centre is really good and i got a replacement fairly quickly.
14. what part of the velcro have you stuck the pedals the hook or the loop? The hook side is the sharper part of the velcro. The loop is the softer side. Is there any velcro already on the board?
15. As long as the sound guy DI's your amp and you have a shared or your own monitor, you'll be be fine. Unless the Marquee is the size of a football pitch, I can't see any issue.
16.
I've got a number of stereo effects pedals on my board, but ive never once used their stereo capabilities. Im sure that when the stereo outputs are used they make a lovely wide noise when monitoring through headphones or nearfeilds, or even FOH.... But what use, if any, do they have for those of us who play through a single amp with only one input?
Without sounding arsey, but can I ask, in what gigging scene environment would you as a bass player require a stereo rig? I know theres something for everyone, but personally, a stereo bass rig would either get laughed at by the FOH and the band. Apart from being in a large and I do mean large touring environment I have never ever seen the need or requirement for a stereo bass signal.
17.
What did you have previously?
The Ampeg PF500. I have the matching portaflex cabs, which are gorgeous in aesthetics. Used it on a combo of 2x10 and 1x15.
18. Likewise! I've had it for a week and thinking I'm gonna keep it! Gonna write up a long review tomorrow for those interested
19.
Checking with the airline is useless. The ultimate decision rests with the cabin crew at time of check-in. IIRC the MU have got some motion in EU parliament to get the major European airlines to agree to allow musical instruments to be carried in the cabin. However this is still some way off being policy.
Not necessarily, Aer Lingus are clear on their stance on it. And I have experienced that personally: https://www.aerlingu...ical-equipment/
20. Update with Aguilar Chorusaurs: And included the GigRig for power supply needs. Finally got round to affording this and was totally worth it:
21.
Hi guys Bands playing in Sweden in June and we're just looking to book flights taking a guitar and a bass with us Everywhere has conflicting information. Should we be booking the instruments as extra baggage or as extra seats? Everywhere seems to have conflicting suggestions Thanks
Check with the airline man. They will tell you what to do. The musicians union allows it to come onboard as baggage. If I'm not mistaken?
22. Done it for a number of years and glad it is on the decline personally. Where there has been some great gigs and played with some fantastic folk, I feel that the repeated pattern was taken its toll. Now that they happen on an occasionally basis, I enjoy them more and thankful for the selected folk I play with.
23.
My TH500 never moves around on my Berg or Barefaced cabs. That's not a good sign if it's happening on your Ampeg cab.
Well the piece of wood that opens the cab and the clips as part of the portaflex series isn't very heavy and with the TH being so light, it makes sense. Especially with the 15 inch speaker rumbling with the amount of low end that I like!
