1. VW Golf or Focus seem to be any musicians choice of vehicle. And no wonder with the room inside them. And reliability even when hitting the 100,000 mile mark. Currently looking at one or the other for (finally) my first car after years of relying on lifts and public transport.
 2.
Bring a book!!! There's more down time than you'd expect. Oh - and hello, don't think we've officially met but I play with Farriers. See you around.
Oh hello indeed! I don't think so, congrats on the Foy Vance support btw
 3.
Congratulations, have a blast and do nothing sensible. Those of us who went before didn't
Haha! thanks man
 4.
Remember it is fun, more than anything else - YOU ARE ON TOUR!!!!! Don't overspend, very easy to come back with less in your pocket than you started with. Keep your receipts! Bulk buy your strings and pack a few extra cables. A multitool, cable ties and duck tape can fix almost anything!
Your first point is something I am really trying to remember and keep focused on. The guys have covered all of travel and food costs, so hopefully, my spending will be minimal
 5.
Bananas are a better energy kick than Mars bars.......
Definitely keeping this one in mind
 6.
Ive been using one and gbus psu for years. Great board
thanks man
 7.
Try not to drink too much, and eat as healthily as possible. Having been on tour and done neither, you certainly notice it towards the end.
Yeh definitely sticking to this. Apparently last time, they were in McDonald's for most meals, which I am certainly not doing.
Give yourself a routine for getting up and doing something before you need to be at the gig. Otherwise you'll slip into getting up later and later and feeling like sh*t all the time. You need a reason to say no to that 5 th drink.
Good idea, thanks man.
Oh, and plan the driving so you're not doing any of that too tired. Lots of motorway miles after a gig are not good, and don't think coffee, pro-plus or those horrible energy drinks will do any good. (sorry, sounding like a nearly 49 year old)
Well thankfully we have a driver, so I've dodged that bullet. And I don't drink coffee or enjoy energy drinks, so this may be the most productive tour ever!
A shower and a pair of fresh under-crackers each day will help you feel good about yourself!
Feel the same way! especially after a night of sleeping on a floor
 8.
Travelling light - think disposable . Take cheap underwear with you and throw it away when it gets dirty and buy more cheap replacements from Primark ect . Keeping warm - get yourself some thermal stuff . My dad bought me a thermal t shirt , long sleeve thermal top and some thermal long johns for Xmas and I cannot believe how much difference they make when I wear them under my clothes when the weather is as bitterly cold as it has been recently . I hate the cold and I honestly cannot understand how I managed without these warm undergarments for so long . You can get them cheap online and they make all the difference between being freezoing and miserable and nice and warm .
Yeh I have two pairs of long johns which are the first to enter the tour bag I know, I really can't stand the cold either, think i'll look for thermal socks as well.
 9. Anyone have any experience with these? http://www.thomann.de/gb/gator_gptblpwr_pedalboard_with_bag.htm I have a friend in a band and as soon as he got one, they all did as they were so impressed with these things. I've heard the power brick they give you isn't the best, but can always find a suitable replacement.
 10. So at the end of February I will be stepping out of the studio and heading out with The 1930s (https://www.facebook.com/the1930smusic) on a short tour on the mainland of the UK. Like good old fashioned rock and roll, accommodation will be limited to floors/bedrooms/couches of friends. Obviously two of the main things I am keeping in mind is: 1. Travelling light 2. Keeping warm Any help in any area, not just what I should bring, but general advice would be very much appreciated. I don't want to break any friendships

 16.
...and yet I built one (actually a mastotron) for less than £25...
And I wouldn't bother with it personally! The D*A*M Ezekiel 25:17 is what I am after
 17.
One of those furry elephant type fuzzes would probably get you close without an octave Jesse
The Woolly Mammoth Very expensive, not worth to part with to be used for one song.
 18. Have some gigs planned in Europe in the summer, so this sticky is great thanks guys! I have a new Hiscox EBS case I might use, or my slightly battered, but still very sturdy Fender moulded case.
 19. I have had my TU-2 with the Boss power adapter for 7 years. Used in every scenario and never has failed. That's why on nearly every touring musicians board, you will see this pedal. When it eventually collapses, I'll get the TU-3.
 20.
Very, very nice. I bet that ownership is all the sweeter having had to put money by without actually having it. Congrats!
Haha! indeed man thanks
Yeah, I`ve just ordered a set based on that clip. I`ve had them before, but for some reason always put them on my backup basses to try out, then never used them in a band situation. This time I`m going to persist and use them with the band.
Yeh, I may have to give them a shot. Gigging with this tonight for it's first run with the roundwounds on, so I'll how it feels
 21.
Great bass. Re strings, D`addario Chromes are very good flats. Have a look at this Youtube clip, 1m55 is the part where you hear how close to rounds they can sound:
That's a tasty sound man.
 22. So after a few months of paying off, on Christmas Eve I got hold of my first American Precision. Ohh she is a beauty and plays like a dream . As you can see from the sticker it is a hand stained finish. She is in a Hiscox case, recommended to me by a good friend who works in the music store. So much lighter compared to the fender moulded case I got with my Jazz. It has the standard strings on at the moment, not too sure yet what to change them to. I have D'addario Pro Steels 105 - 50 on my Jazz, which I have been using for nearly a year now. I know alot of people swear by using flats on their Precision, but with just the various genres I play in different groups, I'm not too keen on them. Maybe you can all convince me Any other suggestions would be great. Especially in the D'addario product line.
 23.
Depends on your issues.... We use Surgex (http://www.surgex.com) now due to issues playing in country mansions, Hotels etc.... definitely helped with regulating power and allowing decent monitoring of whats going on
No major issues thankfully! Just a case of is it worth using one. Some Hotels and bars I have played, the wall-outlets are in horrible conditions. I've used this a few times and it's steered us away from a bad outlet: http://www.maplin.co.uk/mains-socket-tester-9800 Looking at things, I'll probably use the surge protector strip on the PA system.
 24.
Our Mackie PA mixer/amp was damaged by a surge/spike.We had it fixed by a respected repairer who said such things are now common in the UK and he recommended using a surge protector at all times for any amp and indeed with any sensitive home appliance such as TV, computer etc. IIRC the explanation was something like our electricity comes from many sources and is often switched from one to another with potential for spikes, this is apart from your deep freeze, oven etc switching on and off causing more local variations These things do nothing but act as an insurance against potential damage so if you have one you'd be daft not to use it (and get the whole band to plug in at the same time!)
Thank you And apologises to the late reply. Christmas and all that
 25. I asked this question on SOS (Sound on Sound) I don't remember getting a definitive answer. Is it bad in anyway to use surge protectors on any of my equipment, or the PA gear for that matter? My good old father got me a pretty nice surge protector 4 way and I don't want to act like a swine and not use it! Thanks guys.
