1. Doesn't seem to be any name branded that are highly accesible to buy in the UK. I have them on my board at the moment, but one of them died on me after about 2 years of use. They are all unbranded, so may changed them all out for these, but this is a crazy price! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Custom-Length-Black-Short-Patch-Switchcraft-Pancake-Guitar-Pedal-Board-Leads-/151012422150?var=&hash=item23290ab206 Seems to be cheaper to buy van damme cable and get the pancake plugs and make them myself!
2.
Quite a few years back, most sound guys I encountered would only let you play through their DI's, which where placed before your amp. They wouldn't even entertain using the DI on the back of my amp (an Ampeg combo), telling me that "If it goes down...blah-de-blah" Hopefully, they're a bit more progressive now that amp modellers and tone shaping DI boxes are available.
Thats very common and a good standard practice as if the worst case scenario that your amp does break on stage, they can still get sound out front heir DI. And they can then just adjust your monitor, so you can hear your bass.
3. Yes it is a massive no no. Invest in a proper speaker cable to keep your head and cab running at 100%.
4. Had the dream scenario a few weeks ago. Had my Aguilar Tonehammer DI'd to get the clean signal and the cab mic'd for the overdrive/dirt tone. Safe to say I was a happy boy
5.
Gosh, PedalTrain Nano+ *snap* Got mine yesterday from PMT in Cambridge. I only went in for a browse. Ended up coming out £300 lighter and one PedalTrain, one EHX Micro POG and a TC FlashBack delay heavier still, it'll be nice to take all my gigging bits in two soft carry cases. Glad the POG came with a 9V PSU as I literally just dropped my One-Spot and sheared the darn plastic Earth pin off......had it for years, plenty of gigging, and I drop it on my floor as I'm setting up my new board.....spooky This is just my 'Utility' board for Sunday worship......
What will you use the POG for man in worship? Song/effect wise? Paul Baloche's bass player had a workshop in our church and he uses the Boss Octave pedal to get a big low 'C' for one part of 'Hosanna' and thats generally it, but makes a BIG impact.
6.
Would you do £40 shipped to Dundee?
Sold it dude sorry
7.
Was going to say the same thing or surprisingly the SPB-4 but I think that might have too much mids for what the OP wants.
Yeh not looking for too much mid. Lots of low end, mid to cut through, and slight treble. But I am all about the low end
8. I have had a constant battle with my Fender FSR Precision bass: I never get the tone I want. Basically I want that warmth and fullness from my Jazz, but on the Precision. Why not just use the Jazz? Well different jobs call for different basses. I put flats on it (D'Addario's) and it certainly helped, but I am still looking for that more rounded tone. It may be the nature of the beast of the Precision and I can just adjust other elements if required, but any suggestions on pick-ups to at least aid my tonal needs?
9.
The review was from the link I posted - not my words but stuff that I did notice but said so much more eloquently than I could have. Im seriously thinking about another one (currently using a Basswitch for preamp/eq/di) as my drive unit - might be a good choice as they are really solid.
Thanks for the very detailed post Kris! Certainly helpful. I am getting much more comfortable with it now. Played a show on Saturday supporting Rae Morris and their sound guy DI'd the Tonehammer and DI'd my Ampeg PF500 with a Radial J48. It was one of the best tones I have ever got from amp, in terms of FOH sound. The Tonehammer was just getting all my clean tone, and the Ampeg captured all the dirt. If I could always have two channels coming from my desk, life would be that little sweeter!
10. Great pedal that served me well and is still in great condition as you will see from the pictures. Price above does not include shipment to mainland UK. Open to offers. http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/boss-geb-7-equalizer-pedal/1115590040
11.
Yep I always leave the AGS on and get the amount of gain/drive I want from the Gain control. I do this with the amp as well, set Drive on full, then Gain to suit. May well be selling mine soon though Danny.
Ah thats a good idea actually. Will tinker again and hopefully get a happy medium.
12. After been recommended this from Chris Tomlin's (Worship Leader) bass player, I found one in Music Maker in Dublin. I was after an EQ pedal with a DI functionality, so it was either this, the SansAmp or the JHS Colour Box. What sold this was the AGS overdrive functionality and the robustness after hearing some horror stories with the SansAmp. Still toying with levels; going from the clean EQ'd signal, to the AGS as it is a bit extreme in terms of boost. But overall, thoroughly recommend it as an alternative to the SansAmp and to be honest, a lot more prettier! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUdeNZeFK6k
13. Currently replacing some of the pedals on my board (I like to keep it small and nimble ) Polytune Black Noir Boss Equalizer - to be replaced Ezekiel 25:17 Boss Chorus Mooer Recho I want to put either the Colour Box or Sansamp in place for the Boss EQ, as my main EQ and the advantage of having the DI, it'll go straight to the PA system in whatever case it can be used. Has anyone used one for not just EQ, but fuzz/distortion etc.? It is fairly pricey, but the care they took into building it and the sound quality seems to justify the price.
14.
I've just been talking to United Airlines about this since I'm almost certainly going to be flying with a bass for the first time. They tell me it's no problem to carry it on and put it in hand luggage, but does a bass typically fit in hand luggage?
I flew with United multiple times and there is no way I can see your bass, in a soft case of hard shell fit into an overhead bin. No chance. You can't keep an overhead bin for yourself, as other people require space for their luggage, so it will end up being checked in.
15. Update! So just got the head back and everything seems to be good. Will be carrying the spare amp around for the first few gigs just incase Only had to pay for postage as the wonderful guys at Bairds Belfast told Ampeg that my head was still in warranty. Ampeg had to replace the output board, which according to them would have been expensive. Good customer service is still very much alive and well!
16.
Why do you get a limited warranty ..?? how do they justify that. I'd not be happy with that on the face of it, and that in itself would want to make me think I don't want it back..and would want a return on my monies...??
I had the unit for two years before it fell over, so it has lost the warranty. But now with repairs from Ampeg, it will gain a limited warranty. 1. To help improve their image with me! 2. As 'theyellowcar' says it wasn't cause by improper use.
17.
I play through a PF500, regularly, at a local venue and I love it. I'd buy one at the drop of a hat but I keep on seeing posts like this one about how unreliable they are. Is it just the original ones that fail? Have they sorted the problem out yet? Are the new ones more reliable?
All PF500's seem to have the issue, whereas others have commented that the PF800 seems more reliable. Haven't received word back yet, but I've been told I get a limited warranty when it returns which I hopefully don't have to use.
18. So after roughly 2 years of use (nearly to the day) my trusted Ampeg PF500 fault light came on whilst in rehearsals. I tried every combination to combat the problem: 1. New kettle lead 2. Going straight into the amp - no pedal board. 3. New speaker cable. 4. Different instrument cables. But alas, nothing worked. Brought into the store I bought it and thankfully through a short demo, the light came on. A previous demo in the shop didn't present the fault light, which was very frustrating. So back to Ampeg it goes. I know these units are slightly notorious for this issue and it baffles me why Ampeg developed a product, that shouldn't of gone to market as quickly as it maybe did. However, I love it. I really do. It sounds fantastic and the whole 'flip-top' thing is the greatest thing ever. Anyway for those who use Ampeg PF500's or any of the portaflex series, be warned! I will update this as I get news and eventually the head returning to me and the cost!
19. A new project I am involved in with Steve and Thomas from In Case Of Fire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ManebT7lqHE FLAWS are Steve Robinson, Thomas Camblin and Adam Booth. Together they pack a welcome punch not seen in Belfast this side of the late-noughties banjo haze. FLAWS arose in the wake of In Case of Fire, to satisfy the creative urges of both Steve and Thomas who played together in the band. With Adam joining soon after, they found they hit onto something good. FLAWS' debut EP "Harsh Words Through Tangled Wires" deals with the rawness of human relationships, from broken friendships to loss and regret - peeling back appearances to show the cracks underneath. credits Listen to Feels Like home here: http://store.oldfang.com/album/harsh-words-through-tangled-wires
20. Just back from Austin Texas where my bass arrived there and home safely in a proper flight case my friend had from a previous tour. It was put in the hold both ways and there was no damage to the bass. Even with a TSA inspection. The only issue was on the way to Texas, my bass was put on the later flight, meaning I had to borrow one for the show that evening. Annoying, but United Airlines delivered it to me later that night. If I ever have to put my bass in the hold again, I will most definitely use a proper flight case. Not taking the risk for something I hold so dear.
21. Good to see so many Diago power supplies in use Order the Micropower 9 for my PTMini. Exceptional price for a highly regarded piece of kit.
22. The DI is very appealing. Although I may just go for the SansAmp and combine the DI with a sweet pedal already.
23. Shure se315 user here. Very good quality and Shure's customer service is very good. Had a faulty unit, and the replacement was shipped to N.Ireland in 2 days. What I would add, is that using IEM for worship, I find very difficult, even with ambient mics so it may take some adjusting for your bands. Furthermore your wireless/wired packs need to be fairly good quality. No point of sticking £200 headphones into a £20 pack. Could you maybe keep the worship leader with onstage wedges?
