Pirellithecat Posted Sunday at 15:40 Posted Sunday at 15:40 Just acquired one of the above bases - very nice sound and the neck is lovely (for a P Bass!). The previous owner has replaced one of the original "aged" Pure Vintage Fnder Tuning Machines with a Hipshot Drop D Tuner which I'd like to remove (I'll never use it and it looks"wrong"). However, I can't find a replacement tuner with is a direct replacement AND has similar "aging" . Anyone know where I could get one/or buy a single Fender Pure Vintage (reverse) Tuning Machine with similar aging? The other option is to replace all the tuners with something which looks similar. Anyone know what might fit (other than the Fender Pure vintage ones)? Gotoh make some which are a slightly different design but look very similar in terms of aging. And if the replacements were lighter AND non reverse that's be a win!! Can't attach a pic as the guitar is at the Wizard guitar fettlers (The Guitar Repair Workshop in Manchester) but here's a stock pic Quote
Reggaebass Posted Sunday at 16:00 Posted Sunday at 16:00 Maybe a silly question and I’m sure you’ve asked, but doesn’t the owner have the original matching tuner from when they changed it Quote
Pirellithecat Posted Sunday at 16:39 Author Posted Sunday at 16:39 Yeah, it's been "Lost" somewhere along the line. 😥 1 Quote
Aidan63 Posted Sunday at 18:41 Posted Sunday at 18:41 Have you asked the Custom Shop itself ? May have to go through one of their UK retailers to get a reply, iirc Bass Direct are... 2 Quote

miles'tone Posted yesterday at 07:25 Posted yesterday at 07:25 (edited) I put a set of Gotoh Resolite GBR640-XN (X Nickel) on a custom shop P I used to have. They were a perfect fit and not new shiny chrome. They looked the part and were so much better in operation and balance. Reverse wind gears like the originals. I don't think they do the forward gear version (GB640) in X-Nickel unfortunately, soon got used to them though. Recommended. https://www.thomann.co.uk/gotoh_gbr640_4l_xn_bass_tuners.htm Edited yesterday at 07:27 by miles'tone 2 Quote

fretmeister Posted yesterday at 10:05 Posted yesterday at 10:05 There are some luthiers who do metal aging too. You might be able to buy a new version of the right part and get it aged to match. There's a couple of big facebook groups all about relics - both home and pro work - and I'm sure they'd be able to point you in the right direction. 1 Quote
Steve Browning Posted yesterday at 16:51 Posted yesterday at 16:51 I was after a single aged Gotoh and was directed to Gotoh themselves. I received the following response to my email ... Thank you for your inquiry! We are able to get single tuners from Gotoh for customers. I will need to clarify a few details first. The product code for the reverse-wind version of that bass tuner is GBR640 and the finish code for regular Nickel is usually either N or NI. The XN in your product code would be for the X-Finish Nickel. The X-Nickel finish has a kind of satin appearance. You probably don't want to have one tuner that looks different from the rest. Let me know which finish you need and I can make a quote for you. About Ordering and Shipping If you would like to make an order please include your shipping address and telephone number*. Handling of orders takes approximately 1 week for DoMo or Uo-Chikyu products and a minimum of 2-4 weeks for Gotoh products**. Shipments are sent via UPS (Pegasus) or EMS (Japan Post). In some cases we also offer air mail service. Please note that EMS and air mail shipments depend on commercial flights and have been experiencing delays. We cannot predict whether or not any particular shipment will experience delays. If you want a better chance at fast delivery please choose UPS. NOTE: In some cases extra charges may be applied by the delivery service. Japarts does not predict, collect, or pay for those charges. Before you pay, I will make an invoice for you to double-check. Our preferred method of payment is PayPal. You do not need to have a PayPal account for payment through PayPal. They accept credit cards the same as any other online payment system. If you agree to the terms, just let me know and I will send a PayPal payment request to complete the transaction or you can simply send the full amount to [email protected]. martthebass Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Have you tried Fender UK (FMIC UK ). I found them most useful when I lost a saddle on my JMJ Mustang, they sent me an aged piece gratis. 1 Quote
Pirellithecat Posted 4 hours ago Author Posted 4 hours ago Thanks everyone. Looks like there's no chance of getting a single machine Head. I have contacted Fender but no joy. So, looks like I'll just have to buy a set, replace the originals and keep them safe (or sell to some other unfortunate who needs one!) . Tempted to go for the Gotoh (Resolites) GBR 640 in XN, but might just have to go for stock Fender Pure Vintage, to keep the guitar as (on spec) as possible. Quote
MrFingers Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago They're still different than the original vintage Kluson 546 tuners, which have a way coarser worm. You can easily age a nickel-plated one. Just place it on a small rack above a plate with vinegar, and a plastic cup on top to close it off. Check every 5 minutes. Quote
