thebrig Posted December 24 Posted December 24 We're moving to Wymondham (10 miles from Norwich) in the new year, and I'm wondering what the local music scene is like. I'm now 74 and would like to find a band that play in pubs and clubs in the area. Any local knowledge and advice would be very much appreciated. Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year to one and all! thebrig Posted yesterday at 09:59 Author Posted yesterday at 09:59 As I've had no response since asking the question, am I right to assume that I'm moving to an area where the music scene is dead? 🤔 Quote
Mudpup Posted yesterday at 10:07 Posted yesterday at 10:07 I don't think it's just the music scene.... 😉😂 Is it too late to change your mind? 1 Quote
AMV001 Posted yesterday at 10:55 Posted yesterday at 10:55 (edited) I had a mate who used to live in Wymondham, so I spent some time there occasionally. There was a rehearsal place called the Woodshack he used to use, I went there a couple of times. They used to have various flyers and ads for local events on display. Maybe start there (if its still there of course, this was about 10 years ago) I'm sure the staff can advise on the local scene. EDIT- There was also a place called Plug Studios in Norwich. Maybe try there too. Edited yesterday at 10:59 by AMV001 Quote
thebrig Posted yesterday at 11:37 Author Posted yesterday at 11:37 Thanks for the replies. At my age I'm looking for a quieter life and Wymondham ticks all the boxes for me, some nice pubs and places to eat, just a few miles from Norwich, and not that far from the coast. Obviously it would be great if I could find a band, but if it doesn't happen, then it wouldn't be the end of the world because I've been thinking about calling it a day for some time. Quote
snorkie635 Posted yesterday at 11:56 Posted yesterday at 11:56 Bump this to see if any more responses come through for you. Quote
tauzero Posted yesterday at 17:07 Posted yesterday at 17:07 You could try checking out the usual places, JoinMyBand, BandMix, Facebook, Gumtree, and see if there are any music shops or rehearsal studios locally with noticeboards. Plus see if there are any open mics or jam nights near you that you might be able to do a bit of networking at, or at least a bit of playing. 1 Quote

Music wise, The Brickmakers have loads of bands. Quote
leschirons Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago I'm about 25 mins from Wymondham. This is pub band heaven if that's what you're looking for. Depends on your prefered genre of course but if you want a blues band or classic rock covers, you've come to the right place. Pubs with music are alive and well here compared to other parts of the country. The Cross keys in the town centre has live music. You have at least another six venues in Dereham plus the Dereham blues festival. Jam nights in Norwich, the Apex in Bury St Eds, the Waterfront in Norwich, the Corn Exchange in King's Lynn and many other venues. You shouldn't have much trouble finding a band. Send me a PM when you've moved and I'll do you a list of places to check out and maybe a couple of contacts who may be up for playing. Good luck with the move. 1 Quote

That's music to my ears, I love classic rock and blues. 🙂 It could be up to six months before we actually get our move, but I will definitely drop you a PM when it finally happens., thanks for your help. Dood Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) 19 hours ago, Geek99 said: Isn’t @Dood a local ? I am @thebrig, just been away doing Christmas stuff and being ill. Will shoot you a message when I am free. There’s shed loads of bands in the county, lots of busy function bands and plenty of pub bands too. There are a good few different venues in and around the county, but most will squeeze ten-years-ago pub pay out of their takings for entertainment, though there are a few that genuinely do their best to look after bands in the county. I teach bass (and guitar) here and yup, there’s one or two of us bassists in the town. I haven’t been out in the town for a while for, well, reasons, so I can’t comment on which of the pubs are still doing bands, but of the pubs we do have, they are nice, good food and generally, not too much trouble even when the Wymondham Massiffff are out.
