Mismatched top, would this bother you? Cort space 4

Why are people getting het up about this?  As far as I understand it, the only quibble here is whether or not the aesthetic quality of the top of this bass is a fault or not.  Some say yay, some say nay.  Ultimately the vendor's covered by the Ts and Cs, they don't consider it to be a fault, so honestly I'd take the offer of getting it picked up for £25 and move on.  Yes, they've been a bit rum and heavy handed about it - it's been escalated and a compromise offered.

 

Whether or not I would have allowed it out of my factory is irrelevant (but in case you're wondering - I wouldn't).

Yup. The agreed 25 quid seems the easiest - the path of least resistance (as I suggested earlier).

 

Re the OP, the questions was 'would it bother me?' My answer, a resounding yes.

1. OP buys a bass.

2. OP doesn't like it.

6. Seller says OP has to pay the return fee, because there's no fault.

9. I explained why this is inadmissible to get a free return in this case.

Let me correct you….
 

1. OP buys a bass

2. Bass has a badly bowed neck, scratchy pots and the top is mismatched

3. OP returns bass and retailer says they will check the replacement before sending

4. Replacement bass isn’t book matched at all, worse still the wood on the other half is a totally different shade

5. Rather than ranting, OP post a picture on here to check other people’s opinions to make sure he is being reasonable in rejecting the bass

6. 90%+ of people who expressed an opinion think it is unacceptable 

7. Possible millionaire owner of guitarguitar exiled somewhere in Belgium starts ranting on this thread🤣

I had to look very closely at my Space 5 to see that the top wasn't a single piece of wood. There's about 5cm between the pickups where there's a slight difference in shade between the two sides.

 

If GG said they were inspecting it, and presuming that the mismatched top was explicitly stated as unacceptable on the first instrument, then it seems like a very good case for returning it and expecting the shipping cost to be covered. Or ask them for £200 off the price and put veneer on the top, thus making an attractive and unique instrument.

At Peach Guitars Colchester who sell these you can choose online the serial number / weight / look 

 

It’s a far better system so at least visually you can see the top and also the weight of the basses for sale 

 

They are working differently to many stores and offer a great personal service especially if you book a visit to try out products etc
