p4ul Posted Tuesday at 14:31 Posted Tuesday at 14:31 (edited) Hello, selling a thing on reverb, just got an offer with a request for a video of the item to be sent over whatsapp.. seems like a scamy thing. but I am new to reverb. "Excuse me, could you send me a video of the product review via Watsap? I want to make sure that the product belongs to you, because I'm afraid of being caught by scammers. Watsap +44 738 909 8xxx" Anyone have any experience in scamland? is this just a gateway spoof to get me to loose my shirt and other items of clothing? Edited Tuesday at 14:33 by p4ul it prolly is a scam.. just checking really "because I'm afraid of being caught by scammers" Quote
PaulWarning Posted Tuesday at 14:45 Posted Tuesday at 14:45 can't see the harm in sending a vid, just be wary of suspicious follow ups, like paying via paypal, I never sold anything on Reverb so not sure what the procedure is 1 Quote
tauzero Posted Tuesday at 14:59 Posted Tuesday at 14:59 It may be a way to get in touch off Reverb as bypassing Reverb for a sale also means avoiding Reverb's fees - something that comes in handy if you see something on Reverb that's in Warwick or Leamington Spa, ie Bass Direct or Bass Bros, as it's cheaper going via the store. 2 Quote
chyc Posted Tuesday at 15:51 Posted Tuesday at 15:51 It could be a genuine request, and the buyer would be happy with a link to an unlisted YouTube video if it were. As @tauzero says it could be that they want your phone number. 1 1 Quote
Woodinblack Posted Tuesday at 16:10 Posted Tuesday at 16:10 Yeh, I would do a video, put it on an unlisted youtube link and send the link to the video by reverbs messaging system. 1 1 Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted Tuesday at 16:45 Posted Tuesday at 16:45 Reverb has decent protection for the buyer (I've never had cause to claim on it though) so it seems a bit odd that that this is being requested. Nothing to lose in doing a quick video though, just be wary of follow-up requests. 1 Quote

Honest Horizon Posted Wednesday at 14:15 Posted Wednesday at 14:15 Hey, Quickly made an account here to say that I got exactly the same message on Reverb just today. Different phone number but also from UK. Location 1702, Argentina. Pretty big red flag. Cheers, Y. 4 Quote

JapanAxe Posted Wednesday at 15:03 Posted Wednesday at 15:03 Scam. Once they have a contact route outside of Reverb they will use that to send you a message, appearing to come from Reverb, asking you to log in. The link will be to a fake site and will ask you to input your password. And so on and so forth… 2 Quote
binky_bass Posted Wednesday at 20:38 Posted Wednesday at 20:38 Any message that is clearly generic ("please show me your product") is always a massive red flag. 4 Quote
Dan Dare Posted Wednesday at 21:15 Posted Wednesday at 21:15 If you send a video of the item you are selling, he could create his own listing using it, take payment from someone and the buyer who didn't receive it would come after you. There'd be "proof" you were the seller via your video Don't do it. Defo a scammer. 4 Quote

I need to be even more suspicious than I already am then. #setsuspectometertoeleven. what happened to the world wide web that would bring everyone together in sweet sweet harmony 🫠 I might be better off flogging shoplifted meat products in the pub ffs. 🥩 Quote
