Supernaut Posted October 9, 2025 Posted October 9, 2025 Maybe I've attended too many gigs this year but almost every bass player I've seen recently has had the same tone: Fender P/J > low gain OD Does anyone play straight into an amp anymore? /rantover Quote
Lozz196 Posted October 9, 2025 Posted October 9, 2025 I do in 2 of my bands, the 3rd (which I`ve now left) did get some gain from a Sansamp, but only noticeable if digging in. Have to say after years of using preamp pedals I do prefer bass straight into an amp nowadays. Miraculously it sounds like a bass that way. Quote
Bassybert Posted October 9, 2025 Posted October 9, 2025 Maybe you should go and see some different bands 😂 1 5 Quote
tayste_2000 Posted October 9, 2025 Posted October 9, 2025 Does anyone even use an amp these days? 3 4 Quote
pantherairsoft Posted October 9, 2025 Posted October 9, 2025 Only one low gain OD!? Lightweights. Anything less than three stacked drive pedals and it’s not really bass 1 2 Quote
Sibob Posted October 9, 2025 Posted October 9, 2025 Sometimes I just use a low-gain overdrive into my bass. Si 4 Quote

LukeFRC Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 Have you ever considered it could be you have low gain overdrive ears? 2 Quote
Japhet Posted October 24, 2025 Posted October 24, 2025 Just picked up a TC Spark Booster off the forum and first impressions are very favourable. It's nice and flexible depending on what you're looking for and none of the options sound straight 'bad' which is nice. As to the topic of the post, I play in 3 piece bands these days playing mainly Rock and a bit of growl fills the sound out, particularly when the guitarist is soloing. Quote
razor5cl Posted October 24, 2025 Posted October 24, 2025 There's such a thing as "low" gain? That term doesn't feature in my vocabulary 🤣 Quote
