stewblack Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 (edited) So, I've used the Lekato 5.8GHz wireless bugs for a few years without a hitch. I am a bit of a fat handed tw@t though, and one of the somewhat delicate little usb charging plugs has fallen foul of my clumsiness. It's hard wired to the board inside and my skills are insufficient. Yep. That's gone I'm afraid. The king is dead, long live the Joyo! Joyo is a brand I've never had cause to question. They make really great pedals, and the Badass bass amp is a hidden gem. I never had any doubt this would be a solid product. The same thing is available under the Lekato name but I got a good deal on this. So what's good about it? Well 5.8 is always preferable right? The bugs are petit. They last for 4 or 5 hours. Unlike certain big name brands, they do not drop out. Oh and the charging system is brilliant. A USB C socket on the box fills it up with juice while simultaneously charging the bugs. Once it's full, disconnect and bung the whole thing in your gig bag, box, or whatever you use. The box will then fully charge the bugs twice more without needing to plug into the mains. Just push them into their slots and wait for the lights to go out. What could be simpler? Down side? The bugs are fixed, they don't swivel. Fine for face mounting, but they don't sit flush on a bass with side mounted jack sockets. More than happy with my upgrade. Edited August 20, 2024 by stewblack 5 Quote
Happy Jack Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 I've been using Xvive U2 wireless for a few years now and the battery packs are beginning to fade; they used to be perfectly happy to play 3-set gigs on consecutive nights without charging, now they struggle to reach the end of a single 3-set gig. Given how (relatively) expensive they are, I'm not happy and I won't be replacing like with like. My Joyo JW-3 bugs cost just a third of the Xvive price (at the time I bought them - I see they're a fair bit dearer these days) and have delivered a very similar perfomance level to the Xvive U2. I like the look of that charging-case system a lot. I play two gigs most weekends, sometimes three (hell, occasionally four), so having the bugs starting to recharge the second I put them in the case at the end of the gig works for me. Amazon today have a better deal on the Lekato equivalent so I've ordered one of those. 1 Quote
naxos10 Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 I have noticed recently that the Amazon deal flits between the Lekato and Joyo devices when one is at full price the other is reduced (£79 down to £59ish). Quote

Just finished my third gig with them (each time 2 hours plus, continuous) and the recharge pack has dropped just one bar. Very pleased. 1 Quote

I bought mine in February this year. It's died on me twice on stage, flashing red (low battery). The thing is I keep the transmitter and receiver in their charger box. The box still has power (2 bars) a week after I last used the wireless, so I expected them to be fully charged when I picked them tonight. They lasted just over two hours. I always carry cables as well, but I'm starting to lose trust on these. If they clearly lose performance, I'm tempted to open the things and see if I can replace their batteries. Seems fiddly. Quote
stewblack Posted August 17 Author Posted August 17 Hi there. Mine still get used every week, no problem with battery life. Sorry you've had problems. 1 Quote

And just to confirm: to charge the uniots, all you do is plug them into the charger box, right? No need to press that button, or do you have to? I only press it to check the charge but I wonder if I actually have to press the button to start charging, hmmm. When charging, the units lit red for a bit and then everything turns off (a few minutes), but it's still charging, tight? Sorry for all the questions, I'm trying to make sure it's not user error before I try to open these and see if a new battery fixes things, or even just get another, as I really like the design (if it works, and yours seems to!). 1 Quote

Looks like it might be user error. The Amazon page says "You can start charging via pressing the charging control button, and it indicates the battery level of the charging case". 1 Quote

But elsewhere it also says that to charge, all you do is plug the units in the charger, without mentioning the button, so I find it a bit ambiguous. Quote
MichaelDean Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Well, try it both ways maybe? Try draining them entirely and charge the case, put them back in the case. If they charge without pressing the button and they only last a short time again, then it's an issue with them. If they don't charge then try pressing the button to see if they do charge. 1 Quote

Try both would be my motto in this situation - it’s a lot harder to write instruction manuals than you think, remembering everything, restating everything without making the reader throw it away and decide to just wing it 1 Quote

I've just charged both the box and the transmitter/receiver units, so tonight I'll use them at rehearsal and see how long they take to die... but it's clear mine do not work like yours. I'm going to do a few tests, just to get a better sense about how quickly they die, and then I'll attempt surgery. It'll probably end up with my buying another set and crossing my fingers. Quote

mcnach Posted Tuesday at 19:10 Posted Tuesday at 19:10 It sounds like it *might* be user error after all... I've noticed that you CAN turn the units on while in the box. I noticed that while putting the box in the gigbag, where it usually lives. I must have pressed the button for one of the units without realising, and there it was shining... Today, after making sure charger box, transmitter and receiver were all fully charged, I simply turned both units on, set a timer next to them on my desk, and carried on with my work. Four hours later both were still fine. I'm not sure if there's much difference in power consumption between them being 'on but unused', or 'on and used'. While I figure things out, I am going to find a safer way to carry these things. 2 Quote
tauzero Posted Tuesday at 23:53 Posted Tuesday at 23:53 I had a similar occurrence with my Lekato WS-50s when carrying them loose in a gigbag - the slide switch on one switched on and I had a flat battery when I came to use it. I bought a couple of plastic boxes, one for the WS-50s and one for the WS-90s, which have spared my blushes. 1 Quote

Hopefully that will be it... fingers crossed! I only have one gig this weekend, on Saturday, so I'll see how they perform (with a cable set ready to swap if needed). I hadn't paid enough attention, clearly, I only realised this past weekend that the charger box has an OUTPUT USB-C as well, so it can be used to charge other devices. I've never liked pointing my finger at myself and proclaim "here's an idiot", but it's looking like I'm about to do it again Happily, 'though, this time, for aside from this worry I like everything about this wireless system. dave_bass5 Posted Wednesday at 16:00 Posted Wednesday at 16:00 (edited) Ive been using the new-ish Xvive A58's recently and love them. Got fed up with the size of my Lekato's, and they dont seem to be screen very well (at all even). The A58 also have a user replaceable battery in them, so should last quite a long time.
