Hey all,

I’m about to dive headfirst into the murky world of flatwound strings.

Have any of you champs had any experience with Bass Centre Detroit Flats?

If not, what is everyone using? Majority will rule here 😜

  • Swills changed the title to Bass Centre Flatwound Strings

I used to be exclusively LaBella Deep Talkin' on my basses, but the more time I spent on here and falling into the trap of buying more basses to mod and play about with, I couldn't justify the cost of more sets, especially as the price kept going up and up.

I bought a set of Detroit flats for my last 5-string Harley Benton I bought I and they have been fine and would happily buy more.

However, I have just bought myself another HB (4 string PB-50) for Christmas, and this time have taken a punt on a set of their/Thomann's new mega cheap flats for it.  I also bought a 5 string set to try on one of my other basses.

I have been told all the elves will die if I touch any of it before Christmas day, so I'm afraid can't report on how they are at the moment....

I Have a set of Detroit Flats on my Rickenbacker 4003 they sound and feel as good as any other string ive tried

i also have basses strung with Thomastiks, la bella , D' Addario Chromes, fender and Maruszyk flats that sound equaly as good

I did try the The Olympia Flats but i didnt like them they sounded Lifeless to me . for a mid price  option i would go for the Detroit flats Or Maruszyks

they work as well for me as the more expensive options.

Mark bass flats maybe worth a look i havent tried those yet.

LaBella DTFs on a P give *that* sound, which may/may not be what you're after.

The Adagios are great for dipping your toe into the world of flats, £15-20 a set.

EB cobalts sound/play/feel a bit more like rounds, they might suit you.

I like DTFs on my P and Cobalts on my 'Ray.

Your mileage may vary!
