PaulThePlug
Dug this out from under the bed... My Charvel 2 from '88... from when i was 20, skinny and had hair... I'd say in near immaculate condition for 33 years old... the guitar not me... im more Road Worn or Light Relic and 53. It had an outing a few years back for the eldest, but they (me) are a little reluctant to have it just kicking about... They have a Squier Stat, which they love... with the greatest of thanks to, and generosity of @Happypants Edited December 5, 2021 by PaulThePlug

Doctor J
They're very good guitars. The headstock puts people off, yes, but the build quality is excellent. I have a Predator from the same era. Love it.
Doctor J
Also worth noting, Abigail Ybarra, she of Fender myths, legends and healthy asking price bump, was working for Jackson at that time and could have wound both our pickups 😉
police squad
yep that's mighty cool
Old Horse Murphy
I love a bit of pointiness. I've still got a couple of Charvel/Jackson basses that I gig with. It's amazing the amount of people who come up and ask what it is...
police squad
I used to sell a lot of them, when I worked in a music shop in 1989-91. there were pointy ESPs too Charvettes literally flew out the door

Sounded a bit like a wah wah IIRC I don't think that one did but a mate of mine has a Charvel with it. It's a low mid boost, I think, thickens the sound up quite nicely. Doctor J
Although not all are pointy, I do have a thing for superstrats of that era. The Bacchus is an early 2000's imposter, though.

LeftyJ
Very nice! I have also owned my share of pointy goodness, including two lovely Ibanez RG550's from 1990 and 1991 that I stupidly sold (one in the very rare Candy Red finish, very unusual on a lefty) and two Jackson DK2's of which I still own one (Fender-era, made in Japan and unbelievable value for money: a Japanese-made guitar with real Seymour Duncan pickups and a decent locking trem for just over €500 new! I bought mine used for the value of those pickups alone). Have to admit that in the end, they're not really for me though. I'm not comfortable with such thin necks and large frets, and keep going back to my 80s MIJ Squier Strats! Many great axes have come and gone but it's my 84-87 Squier E-series Strat that has stuck with me. I've even sold a Music Man Silhouette Special and two USA G&L's. The only one I kinda wish I still had was a lovely ESP "c*ck stock" Horizon. Lovely superstrat with a slightly more Strat-like neck profile, bolt-on neck, carved top and all black save for the natural faux-binding. Beautiful thing! I've got a bacchus bass & a guitar & they're both superb instruments.
MacDaddy
love me some 80's pointyness 😎 I've owned Hamer's and Charvel's - guitars and basses - and still hanker for an original 80's USA BC Rich Gunslinger.
LeftyJ
I just picked up a 1993 Ibanez RG470 with the old square heel neck joint for stupid money. It was being offered local to me and I couldn't resist. It spent the better part of its 29 year life in the (original) case because the seller had issues with his hands and couldn't play it. He just treated himself to a nice MIM Strat and decided to sell this.
