For me it's about what i have now. Not always a goal for each bass but I enjoy them all. It feels like too many but it's a result of 22 years of playing bass.

Fender Geddy Lee Japan - Main bass/using it in the band. First 'real' bass
Rickenbacker 4003S '91 - Bought with my dad about 18 years ago. Use it sometimes in the band, has emotional value
Rickenbacker 4003 '87 - From my birth year and like the sound better than the S. Don't need it, but it was a good investment and love playing. Play's more difficult than the S.
Tokai Jazz Sound '22 - Great 60 style Jazz Bass. Love the feeling and sound
Squier Precision - Flatwound strings
Squier Mustang - Shortscale fun, flatwound strings

At one point in my life I had 5 basses at once, which actually led me to play less. Just choosing what bass to play became overwhelming. I sold them all and started over on a clean slate so to speak. Now I have two really nice boutique basses with disctinctly different sounds and applications (although both 30” scale). Being – almost – middle-aged with small children at home and less time than ever to practice alone or rehearse with friends and with no gigs in sight, I have a strict 1-in-1-out policy when it comes to instruments.

5 at one time was my maximum once and it made my head spin. I have the same policy,in fact I'm negotiating a sale with Wunjo's right now as I'm 4 instead of 3 due to trading some unused amplification for a bass recently.

Good luck with the haggle!  Out of curiousity: why don't you sell it through the BC classifieds instead? 3 seems like a decent number of basses, indeed. :)

I think another 6 is in order, a Basschatter with 100 basses!

Thanks. Wunjos can be quite generous with their buy-in prices so I'm trying my luck again. I'll play it by ear. I haven't ruled out selling it on here but once I have it in my head a bass isn't staying I want it out the way asap.

It's OK, I have 11 electric guitards as well so the total is 105 ;)

Sorry to ask but where are they stored? 🤣

I have access to a private storage facility that I visit regularly to swap/retrieve stuff as required...
