Waddycall Posted September 26, 2021 Posted September 26, 2021 Iām in the market for a new cab. I play in a newly formed covers band doing some of the usual pub covers. Weāve two guitarists. Iāve been using a rumble 115 cab in previous bands that rehearsed in decent studios with good acoustics and always DIād or micād at gigs. It always seemed fine. The hall this band rehearsesĀ in sounds horrible and Iām having problems hearing myself. Iāve tried two different amps and have a third (RM800) on the way. Both my existing amps have some issues which put them atĀ risk of giving up at any point.Ā Just so happens that someone local to me isĀ selling a fairly recent super twin for a fair price. Iām wondering if this would be a good choice but have concerns about whether itās Ā too much for what I need and whether portability could be an issue.Ā Iām also wondering if the lack of tweeter could be an issue. How noticeableĀ is the lack of tweeter on these? common sense says I should try the new amp and go from there. Just donāt want to miss the opportunity if this super twin is what I need. Quote
chris_b Posted September 26, 2021 Posted September 26, 2021 Hi, IMO there are no downsides to an ST. Ā These cabs are clear, clean and punchy. They spread the sound evenly across the stage and through the room. Your band will love it. Ā It won't be too much because you have volume controls. Your RM800 will be purring along nicely. 3 Quote
Lozz196 Posted September 26, 2021 Posted September 26, 2021 I had the Super 12T cab, always had the tweeter fully off and never had any problems with lack of highs. Iām not a crisp modern-highs player but the highs from the S12T were decent. 1 Quote
fretmeister Posted September 26, 2021 Posted September 26, 2021 I love mine. I donāt miss a tweeter. The top end of the freq rangeĀ is very similar to an Ampeg 8-10 so if you would be happy with that top end youāll have no trouble. Ā Sound dispersion is excellent, just donāt stand too close to it as it will be firing at your legs. I tend to put mine in the corner so itās a bit further away from me, and everyone can hear it equally. Ā It sounds fine in the house too. The wheels are good and itās very light. 2 Quote
Waddycall Posted September 26, 2021 Author Posted September 26, 2021 Interesting gas fuelling comments! Might have to think about getting in touch with the seller. Theyāre only 20mins away. Any negatives? is it easy enough to out on the back seat of the car etc? Probably too big for my boot (seat Ibiza). Should measure it really. Quote
fretmeister Posted September 26, 2021 Posted September 26, 2021 It has handles onĀ both sides as well as the top so itās easy to move around. Ā Dimensions are in the BF site, so measure your car!Ā 1 Quote

That said I wouldnt want to discourage what looks like a significant upgrade to anĀ ST which certainly isn't going to hurt. A more radical solution would be toĀ considerĀ takingĀ the DI out of your amp into IEMs (might need a mixed to buffer it) which will solve the problem of you hearing yourself at least, in a noisy hall youl alsoĀ probably get enough bleed through of the rest of the band. garyt Posted September 26, 2021 Posted September 26, 2021 The Supertwin is extremely light, and you will never be short of power. Ā You wonāt miss a tweeter, and if you are battling 2 guitarists and live drums, the Supertwin is probably the perfect weapon to cut through the mix. Ā You will be heard and felt, no messing. As someone else said here, no cab will fix the crap acoustics of a village hall. Ā 2 Quote

fretmeister Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 If the hall has those old really long curtains over windows and over storage areas then make sure they are extended. Ā Can make a fair bit of difference in a reflection heavy room. 2 Quote
Downunderwonder Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 Turn everything down as low as you can get it. Drummer might have to learn a new skill set. 1 Quote
Muzz Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 Since I got my ST (a few years ago now) I've not looked at another cab, nor have I ever felt it wasn't enough to keep up with (actually annihilate, but that's not the point) the daftest of drummers (and twoĀ 100w Marshall/412 geetards)...even with a 300w head... Ā They're simple to move, light, and they have wheels. I've even had the drummer offer to help move my gear since he worked out how light it is... 2 Quote
moley6knipe Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 @WaddycallĀ - buy it. Thatās a bargain and wonāt be here long. My BB2 can easily drown out drummer and two guitars but it still works great at small pub volumes. Theyāre amazing pieces of engineeringĀ Quote
Waddycall Posted October 1, 2021 Author Posted October 1, 2021 As it turns out, despite still being advertised, itās sold!Ā 1 Quote
pbasspecial Posted October 2, 2021 Posted October 2, 2021 I would put a request on items wanted here.Ā I replaced a couple of super compacts with a super twin.Ā Bought an Ampeg B200r earlier in the year. Just because. Love it. Used it for months then tookĀ my Supertwin and ABM500 out as part of the house band for jam nights (worried that the b200r might get damaged).Ā Sounds so much better than the Ampeg. Lovely tone, excellent dispersion throughout the pub.Ā Buy one, you wonāt regret it! Quote
pbasspecial Posted October 2, 2021 Posted October 2, 2021 To give you an idea of how good they sound, here IMG_1976.MP4 Ā is a video of me playing at the last jam night with a couple of regulars doing a Gary Clark jr style version of Come Together. 1 Quote
