This guitar was a special order made with Gibson via The Bass Center, London as black was not a production line colour.. Its a 1994 model (Gibsons Centenial year) and this means its made with the best woods that Gibson have ever used...(Brazilian Mahogany Hard Wood Body and Ebony neck)....This comes with the Gibson guitar case (the combination lock is broken and will not close) :-) Please make cash offer....West Yorkshire :-) I have been doing some checking on the serial number as I was convinced I purchased this earlier than 1998 as I originally advertised. All electric models and some acoustic models currently made at this factory. This facility has an average production rate of 220 guitars a day. Each guitar is built by hand and takes about 4 to 6 weeks to complete. Note: Most hollow and semi-hallow body guitars are made at a separate plant in Memphis Tennessee. This facility has an average production rate of 40 guitars a day. I'd love a Les Paul bass if I had the cash. Be intrigued to hear of anyone's experience with these bad boys actually, you really don't see them around very often. Is that because of their availability, or are they just not too hot? It must be the least-spotted Gibbo bass around, odd considering the ubiquity of the 6-string version. Any BC'ers got one? Any BC'ers got one?[/quote] Well, I have some indirect experience of them with an Epiphone Les Paul Standard. I was quite impressed, nice wide neck (suits me) and NO NECK DIVE (which surprised me). However, I've since modded mine with EMG-HB pickups, the humbuckers give a rather thick sound and there wasn't a lot of tonal variety in the tone controls. Bridge is nicer on the Gibson, being a separate bridge and stop bar. The Epi has the oh-so-lovely 3-point bridge and because of the carved top, I can't replace it with a Supertone without major surgery. Some Gibsons have the pickup selector switch in the usual Les Paul location, but this one doesn't have it so it'll be set up VVTT. I might add one to my Epi, it has a massive channel routed out all the way up there after all. My criticisms regarding pickups may not apply to a Gibson USA instrument. In excellent nick and in a bouyant market, could fetch well over a grand Id say, maybe 70% of new price maximum. However, presently the market is fickle and depressed and you dont know what offers may arise. Not so popular as T birds but also not so common, its a rather understated bass for its quality. Perhaps a slightly specialised market (due to lack of a top horn ?) but if the tone is as legendary for rock as many say it is, then a knowledgeable buyer would be very pleased to see one come onto the market. Cheers J[/quote] I wouldnt believe everything you read on Harmony central. The les paul bass has a maple cap on a mahogany body. The only brazilian wood likely to be used is mahogany and the supreiority of brazil mahogany for Les Pauls is apparently the subject of much opinion. jonny.newiss Posted March 27, 2009 Author Share Posted March 27, 2009 (edited) Just to let you all know I have changed the year of manufacture after I have investigated the serial number..I was told in a shop that the year of manufacture was 1998 but I was convinced I bought it earlier but as I kept no record was not 100%.
