NAD! Fender Bassman 100!

Recommended Posts

Soooo I have an Eich endorsement which is absolutely terrific but lately I've also been GASsing for a vintage Fender Bassman. Yesterday, a friend of mine sent me a link with "just buy this ok" so I offered a low but decent price for it and surprisingly, the seller agreed! So I took all 55 lbs home and I'm super happy with this amazing amp. Everything works, it sounds absolutely killer and it included the original speaker cable. I'm still trying to figure out how to open it up to check the pot codes but that shouldn't be complicated. For now: yay!

It was retolexed a long time ago. Not very tidily done, but it looks great anyway :)

It looks great, I wouldn’t change it

As someone who worked on several Nuclear power stations I found the stickers somewhat amusing! LOL

My first "serious" amp - wish I could remember who I sold it to.

Nice! I've played a 50W Bassman. Great sound, but lacking a little headroom in the heat of the moment. I bet the 100W would be perfect.

Another question: I'm going to try it on my Eich 112XS cabs of course, but a friend of mine offered me a 212 cabinet made from an old Supertwin combo, the 185 powerhouse from the 70's. It has the original Utah speakers in it and I was wondering if anyone as experiences with those speakers, and if it would sound decent with the Bassman.

My worst experience in bass amplification was a 50W Blackface blonde Bassman with it's 2x12 cabinet in the late Sixties. It looked wonderful on stage but sounded like a pile o' crap. I had to use it for the two gigs that weekend in Liverpool and then returned the amp to Dawsons in Runcorn. Unfortunately they had sold my trade in so I just left the amp there. I still get nightmares about the damn thing!! :(

The opportunities I've had to use a Bassman have been an abolute pleasure. I've never used one through a Bassman cab though- I have an idealistic desire to play one through a Fender 2x15, although I'm familiar with the pitfalls of such an endeavour. I still might have a half-way replica made one day, similar look and form, but sturdier and better braced.

If these were the size of a standard Fender Twin Reverb, that would be very small for a bass 2x12“, and if it's open backed like the usual Twin, then I wouldn't. It might be a nice guitar cab.

I'm going to try  it on my Eich 112 cabs, but forgive me for being a bit dumb but I've never dealt with tube bass amps before (in 20 years? Never? Well, not with non-original cabs): is it best to connect 1 speaker to the amp and then the other cab to the other cab, or two cabs into the amp?

I love a Bassman!

To get in, power down and leave for a while. Then leave it a bit longer...

The back panel (if still there should be obvious on how to remove. The chassis (at least on the 135s) is held in b the longish bolts through the "runner plates" on the top.

Paul.

I wish Fender hadn't discontinued the Bassman 100t. I'd definitely have bought one of those eventually.
