I have another spare from an unknown vintage bass if anyone needs one. I think it was a mid 70s bass but k have no idea.

To qualify for this exclusive offer, you must show an empty hole on a vintage bass or one filled with straplocks (spit).

Mine have been aged naturally and were probably worked on by Leo himself.

All joking aside if anyone wants one, let me know and I’ll chuck it in the post.

It will be known as the burns bass bitsa epidemic. Much like when shops sprayed their fenders fiesta red back in the 60s.

People will talk of me with hushed reverence. (Probably better than shouting and sweating at me as most people do!)

And I thought being shouted and sworn at was bad!

I was researching the prices of pre-CBS Jazzes as I have quite a budget built up for music stuff. However, it seems to be impossible to find one under €10K... The 64 refin at Andy Baxter is lovely but it's almost €8K plus shipping and VAT. That hurts.

Keep your cash in a high interest account and wait for the right one.

We’re already seeing prices for some vintage gear stabilising and falling. The strength of the US economy (and the UK to be fair) is based on debt and at some point that’s going to come crashing down.

If you’re in Europe I’d look to the States. The exchange rate is strengthening and you’ll get a better deal than buying from the UK.

Well, I have a wonderful investment opportunity my friend, Mr Ponzi, is currently working on...

If you have to run up the white flag, Moto Music have some quality reissues and 70s basses for more reasonable price tags.

Or do what I did and get a Flea jazz for 90% of the experience for 10% of the price.

@BassAgent, there are two "interesting" vintage Jazz Basses on Zikinf at the moment:

Jörg's personal 1965 in Germany: https://www.zikinf.com/annonces/annonce-2397384

A "naturalised" 1965 in France: https://www.zikinf.com/annonces/annonce-2432484

I guess you already checked Bassic.de too...

Worth checking Japan too as the Yen is very low.

The second one, the natural, belonged to a friend of mine, who imported it from the USA in 2009 and only sold it in 2023 to the actual seller...

It was already refinished in white when he received it, but it wasn't a great job when looking close, so a local luthier (Olivier Roux from Saint-Nazaire) turned it into a natural finish, but everything else is fully original, except the frets that were dead in 2018, so another luthier (Cyril Guerin) turned it into fretless and it was refretted just before its sale in 2023 by the same person, and it even comes with its original case.

Maybe worth asking @BassAgent.

If French is a problem, just ask, and I'll help you.

Yeah I've been looking into non-EU basses and it all looks nice, but adding import and VAT usually doesn't make the actual price lower than e.g. a German one.

Well, I already have 4 vintage basses ('66, '70, '71 and '73) so I'm pretty well set. I'll have to wait for the right one.

Ah thanks! I've been checking Bassic and Zikinf already, of course :)

And here is how it sounded when it was fretless:

The funny thing is that I asked Jean-Paul, the bassist here if he had a vintage Jazz Bass for sale, and he pointed me this refinished one that used to be his and he gave me all these informations.

I really like the vibe of this '66 Precision that Mike Long has at the moment. It's tempting me to try a C neck again. It's all there, all original, even the case, and the weight is great.

I have a guitar here which he would probably straight trade for........ hmm.

Yeah I like that one too rob, I don’t think it’s a bad price either compared with some that are around

I agree Tony. Mike is good to deal with too, he knocked a surprising chunk off the price of the last one I bought from him.  Even more hmm......!
