Discovered the album 666 whilst in lockdown. It’s great, but does contain one of the maddest tracks ever recorded in Infinity (unfortunately there isn’t an infinity sign on my keyboard).

That's one description of it 🙂

Presume everyone knows that Aimee Mann is pretty tasty on the bass as well as being a top singer and guitar player. When we saw her live she and the "other bass player" in the band swapped between bass and guitar all evening.

No one's mentioned Canoe Reeves but I guess that's well known.

Less well known is maybe Ryan Gosling...

Geeky actor Michael Cera...

And didn't film critic Mark Kermode play bass for Danny Baker's short lived late night chat show?

Mark Kermode was in a skifflish band playing upright bass a long time ago..

Ian Brown of The Stone Roses originally played bass in The Patrol alongside John Squire, the band that would later morph into the Roses.

Didn't realise that!

However (and I'm not a massive fan of Stone Roses - they are OK) Ian Brown did turn out to be a good frontman and Mani a great bass player, so the shift around worked well for them!

Indeed! I saw the Roses live 'back in the day' and it was Mani that mainly caught my eye. He was actually the one that inspired me to buy my first bass and give it a go.

Just learned that the wonderful actor Adrian Dunbar who, among many other roles, played Chief Superintendent Ted Hastings in Line of Duty is a member of our club...

"Although he’d achieve fame in films such as My Left Foot (1989) and The Crying Game (1992), Dunbar started out as a musician. In the 1970s, he played bass and sang backing vocals in an Elvis impersonator’s band."

I'll kick it off.  I always assumed Julian Cope was purely a vocalist and was aware that James Eller played bass through most of the solo work.  I saw an old Teardrop Explodes video recently and there was Copey playing the bass.  Further research revealed he was the bass player in The Crucial Three.  Anyone else surprised to discover someone started out as a bassist?

When I was visiting Matamp years ago, they had a one-off 400w Matamp that was commissioned by Julian Cope for live work. That was the first time I found out that he was a bassist.
