Hi guys. Bought a bass to get back into playing after a while. I bought it off a company called Ferris Music.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4-STRING-ELECTRIC-BA...Q2em118Q2el1247
Very polite and delivery was quick but boy what a load of rubbish. Action is ridiculous, wiring is wrong (2 volume pots, both do the same thing on or off for all the pickups), truss rod wont turn and to top it off rusty frets! Has anyone an opinoin on the Westfield 'Warwick' look a likes? The guy in the guitar shop has them for £119, he said Warwick were going to confiscate them off Westfield so they sold them all off cheap. Or any other ideas? Looking to spend about £150 to £200?

Good lord, the action on that even makes my Precision look low. ;)

Shocking.

Get yourself a Warwick rockbass - amazing value for money. Look out for a single pickup 4 string Streamer Std Rockbass on ebay - right on your budget and a great player for the money. I can't think of a better bass for under £200.

It looks like the photo on the eBay listing is a stock photo of the model. I think that when the item is second hand, the seller should post a photo of the actual item.

As a rule, I'd never buy someone from someone who doesn't have a clue what they're talking about, like those eBay sellers who quote the entire length of the guitar end to end as an important measurement ;)

For £200 you could get a secondhand Warwick Rockbass, if it's a Warwick-a-like you've set your heart on. There's one here that might still be on the go: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=rockbass

I bought my daughter a westfield warwick thumb 5 string copy from ebay & after adjusting the trus rod & saddles, puting a lighter guage set of strings on it sounds & play's lovely, i've even sloped the tuners down & cut the "w" from aluminium & recessed it into the headstock.
So i'd say if you're ok about setting it up all should be good ;)

I'm just amazed at the height of that action... you could limbo under them strings... ;)

PS. I bought a cheap 5 string bass off Ebay a year ago... needed one in a hurry...

wasn't bad for a made in China no-name bass... all it needed was proper strings to replace the floppy ones it came with... and a minor adjustment to the truss rod and it did the job...

Tuners and bridge have since been upgraded using ones off the V950B I bought later... so technically I did buy cheap, buy twice... but I knew what I was getting into...

Mate, what neepheid said about Warwick Rockbasses is very true. I've got a 5 String Corvette which is an early one made form quality components which I may be selling in the very near future (still not entirely sure as its such a great bass) but I bought it for £180 and its mustard. I had a genune Warwick Corvette which I sold and kept this as it sounded better. Mine is an early one made in Korea which I reckon are 100% better than the current Chinese versions.

Under the distance selling regulations you can ask for a refund irrespective of the reason for up to 14 days after purchase and just stand the cost of sending it back to them and put it down to experience, its a good lesson.

The best secondhand basses by far are Yamaha's and my personal favorite Westone Thunders which can be had for £120.00
You get a quality well made , sonically good bass that will last years.
Search the threads and you will find lots of good recommendations.

No need to buy dodgy basses with £200! That amount buys all of these as new:-

As others have said Rockbasses can be had secondhand for £200. There's also likely to be lots of other decent stuff for sale on this site for that price. How's about these....?

The old y2k Streamer STDs are good basses. Be sure to check they aren't later Rockbass versions (nowt wrong with Rockbass, but you want to be sure about what you're buying). The Warwick versions have nicer wenge/ovangkol necks.

The green one looks like a nice deal.

What Paul said, both legally and bass wise I can wholly recommend.

The Westone thunders are probably the most underated basses there are right now, grab one before people cotton on.

I own one of the Westfield VBS5a's (or Warwick look a likes). The issue i had with it in the begining was to with the strings. It came strung with a wierd set of strings, with a very light "low B". And thus this was causing loads of fret buzz. I chucked them and stuck a set of Medium Warwick Yellow Labels on it, did a good proper set up and it plays just fine. The only 2 issues i can put against the bass are, the rear strap button is too high up and gives you major neck dive. And the pickups are quite weak.

Apart from that its doing me just fine. and is my gigging bass.

Cheers for that. Currently in negotiation for a nice warwick STD but if it doesn't come off i think i'll be getting one of those and a Gallien Kruger backline 15 or and old trace elliot gp 4x10.

That action is amazing... but not as amazing the the photo's!! Any chance you could make them a 'tad' larger? :)

Seriously though.... what a crap bass. Rockbass seems the way to go with your budget. ;) And the Westone Thunders are great too.... my first 'proper' bass was a Thunder 1A in red. Beautiful instrument, but my Mum sent it back when she found out I was smoking!!!! :P

Just had an email back off Ferris the people who I bought the bass off. They said to keep it! Ive been refunded and have a dodgy bass. Think im gonna be ripping the frets out tonight and seeing if I can do something with it. Not complaining but what an odd way to run a business.
