wow is that just me or is that a cracking idea?
It's a cracking idea.

The participating shops tend to be specialists in bassoons and cellos rather than electric/electronic instruments though. And there are limitations in what you can buy; I think computer-based instruments don't qualify, nor do amps and speakers. It's been a few years since I looked though, might have changed.

It's been revised (I think). You can buy amps now as long as it's with an instrument. The perfect opportunity to get a back-up bass, then...

nah you can get amps, basses, guitars etc. i think its just PA equipment and computer music equipment if i remember rightly. it explains everything on the take it away site. im quite lucky, ive got a shop on the next block from my girlfriends house that do the take it away thing, even though theyre not listed on the website.

I spoke to Dolphin about it today (was possibly buying a Warwick Corvette...) but they mentioned that it had to be done in store - although I could do everthing over the phone - they would make sure it would go through - then sign and pick up the instrument in store.

So basically you need to physically sign the doc's in the store.

is it really interest free? They said student loans were interest free then they just compound at a rate slightly above the base rate.

Given the money problems we are all about to suffer i would recommend wee british companies may need your interest free money more than Fender corp. or yamaha corp. or whoever...

I looked into this when I was Stagg hunting. It really does do exactly what it says on the tin. A local music store to me (Market Hoarborough Music) are participants and they said they could order in a Stagg in the relevant colour and still be eligble fo rthe scheme.

Basically, you pay a 10% deposit followed by the balance in 9 equal payments. So for a £360 instrument, you pay 10 £36 installments, and you get the thing up front!
has anybody found a store website where you can do this over the website??? it seems to me like you can only go into a store and do this. im lazy, id love to do this from the comfort of my own couch
This page says 'Take it away loans are available on mail order purchases as well as those made in person at a participating store'.
Does anyone know if this only applies to stuff that's actually in stock, or can you get the participating stores to order something in especially for this?
Yep, it can be done with 'non-stock' items, & also via mail order/over the phone etc.

I used Andertons in Guildford, & ordered a non-stock Fender Active P Bass Special today. You can put any deposit from 10%, but need to leave at least £200 on finance.

Great way to spread the pain of GAS!! ;)
