1. Hi all, Loath as I am to do this I have to sell some gear to get some funds together for my college course. So I am gonna sell the bass I use least at the moment even though I really like it... bah. Its a Rockbass Corvette 4 string Standard with active pickups. Fitted (and including) Schaller Strap locks. The same as this one here - in fact I bought it from them... Rockbass Corvette The bass is practically brand new - I dont think there's a mark on her.... I would prefer to sell it with the Gator Flight case I bought with it as none of my other basses fit in it.... but will split if I need to. For postage I would suggest buying with the flight case but if picking up there would be no need. Case is this one: Gator TSA GPE Flight case I am hoping for £310 for both items if purchased together - add a £10 if you want em delivered (but I would recommend to pickup) Or if I have to split.. £245 for the bass and £85 for the case (again add £10 for posting of each item - would prefer pickup to save anguish and heart ache caused by couriers/royal mail) This is a bargain as the flight case hasn't been out of my house and the bass is barely used. I will post pictures later or tomorrow. Bank transfer for payment preferred as I need the cash like yesterday lol Thanks for looking!
2. If you can stretch to it this is, in my humble opinion, a very good bass. Tanglewood TW55 I have one and its possibly my favourite bass to play. Mind you I like Death Cab For Cutie so that might explain that
3. I am loving my Classic Vibe jazz..... it looks to be fast becoming my fave bass so far...
4.
As new, I'm getting a Gigskinz bag that'll take everything so this is surpless. £20 plus postage.
Is this just the head bag or the full combo and head bag? If its the full one I quite fancy it!
5. Hey all, I wanted to take a full size flightcased bass on hols next week but bought this instead (the one on the left obviously next to my old Ibanez) Its a Tanglewood Elfin Bass (EB-18MAH) Description: Double cutaway, 1/2 size bass guitar Solid body Maple neck Rosewood fingerboard Split/Single Pickup Tone & Volume controls Chrome bridge & tailpiece Die-cast machine heads Mahogany finish Its a sort of deep purple woodstain gloss finish and it sounds suprisingly alright ! Very well made for such a cheap item. I am gonna take the neck off and pop it in my hold all along with a headphone amp and MP3 player so I can hide from the wife and her family and practice a bit I am still chuckling everytime I pick it up its so small lol And before I get the piss taken out of me it only cost me £16.50 and an old combo I was gonna trade in anyway - so its a bargain. Cant wait to rock the open mic night with it hehe. Cheers! Edd
6. I will take it if the above falls through !
7. Funnily enough I emptied my loft to make space to put more stuff up there and found semi naked pics of my ex fiance. The wife wasnt impressed.
8. I am very fond of Loney Dear. (from Wiki) 'Loney, Dear is the pseudonym of Swedish singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Emil Svanängen. He has self-released four albums of music in his native Sweden' I am very impressed with him mainly due to the fact he plays every damn instrument on his album AND sings AND recorded a lot of it at home on a little recording rig. Plus I like the fretless sound on this track a lot. Loney Dear - Airport Surroundings He might not be up with some of the ones above but I like him and his music quite a bit. Have a listen and tell me what you think. I am still way off his standard but would love to learn that track. Edd
9. Hey folks, I finally took the plunge and bought a new Squier Reissue Jazz bass today. The guy in the shop couldnt believe how fast it flew out (he only got it in 10 mins before I got there hehe) Been wanting one like this for a while but there was never one in a shop I could look at locally and had held off from internet purchasing one ... well... just in case build quality was off. Picked it up in the shop and it felt right. Nice neck, nice spacing, light, tactile and a superb smooth shape. Plays really nicey and sounds awesome! Anyhow - heres a few pics. I had Rotosound flats on my Tanglewood TW55. They sound really nice - very double bassy. But I have recently (a month or so ago) swapped them out for Thomastik Infeld Acousticore (nylon cored strings) I now dont have the double bass sound I had previously but my playing of the acoustic has improved and I am a lot more articulate using these. I think the E string is around .85 in size compared to the 110(?) that the roto's had. Much easier to play but a lot brighter. I love the sound and wont be swapping back anytime soon - Try the Acousticores if you can (Sound like roto flats are what you want tho)
11. If I was in London I would probably have that off you - shame I am in Blackpool Ahh well....
12. Start on 4 pints a night, then up it a pint a night till you go. Thats all you need to do.
13. Hey all. I have a Tanglewood acoustic bass and I dont really find the tone plugged in with the under saddle piezo to be as good as the unplugged tone. I have a Genz Benz shuttle 3 head and was wondering what (if its possible!) I would need to use an external mic from the bass to the amp. Would it be: Bass>Condenser Mic>phantom power supply>main in on amp? Would that do it? and if so any low budget recommendations to fill my needs? Cheers! Edd
14. Hi all. I just changed strings on my Tanglewood TW55A/BassB acoustic bass (BBand pickup) I was using Rotosound flats on it with uber high tension but good thump. Figured I would go the other way and try some light tension strings. Just fitted Tomastik Infeld nylon cored acoustic bass strings. (they feel great btw!) I sorted out my truss rod because of the tension difference and unplugged it sounds nice. Plugged in and the E seems quieter than the other strings... Is it possible I have damaged the peizo pickup whilst restringing? I dont know anything about peizo's or even where the damn thing is (saddle I am guessing lol) Is it common? is it moveable? Any help appreciated in sorting this out! Cheers Edd
15. I have a Tanglewood TW55 acoustic bass (Tanglewoods top of the range model) and I replaced the strings it came with when I got it. I replaced them with some Rotosound Jazz Flatwounds. I have enjoyed using these strings as they give a nice solid upright sound. However I keep hearing good things about Thomastik Infeld acoustic bass strings. These are Phosphor Bronze wound on a nylon core. They are a much lighter (41 53 68 86 compared to the roto ones at 45 65 85 105 ) I havent had any experience of these strings before so really dont know what to expect. I guess I will need to play with the action etc due to the tension difference but if anyone would care to enlighten me to how these will differ and whether I should forget it and stick to what I have then please let me know BTW - new strings is my way of releasing gas this month as I am skint lol Cheers all Edd
16. I just woke up so I might have missed it in the post ... but.... if you want people to collect you might want to put your location in the post OR update your profile. Free bump Edd
17. Thanks all. (Budget) Its the Perfect Ten. It is good for what it does - but I fancied something with a little more clout
18. I have a fair few bits now so I will take the plunge and post my stash first up my starter rig I bought first (I no longer have the ashdown - its in a local shop for sale) I still use the Ibanez BTBLTD07 because I fitted a drop d to it. Next up is my Tanglewood TW55 acoustic bass. Fitted with flats and has a nice tone amped or natural I also have an older OLP 5 stringer which I cant get the hang of playing 4 strings for me it seems - so this is for sale in the local shop too. Shame really as its a nice bass. Then we have my Custom Shop Epiphone Thunderbird in awesome gloss black. Bought off here from Greeneking (nice chap btw) I adore this bass - no matter what others say about Thunderbirds it never has put me off playing as its a really really nice bass to rock with. Plus it just looks the part - and the tone suits the stuff I like. Last but far from least is my present rig and main bass. Genz Benz Shuttle 3.10t combo with Hartke 15" extension cab. Zoom B2.1u foot pedal and Big Muff. My Warwick Rockbass Corvette active which I bought not 2 months ago and just sliding into the pic my Ashdown Compression pedal. I love this rig - sounds fruity I can get pretty much and tone I want with the pedals now. Almost happy with it. And the GB is just an amazing bit of kit for its size and weight. Anyway thats my lot (for now!) Feel free to comment etc - I know I dont have the best bass's in the world or rig - but its what I have so there! (please dont ridicule my tiny Ukulele's sat on the wall - they already feel somewhat lacking when hung with the bass's hehe) And a quick random pic of wall hangers lol Cheers all Edd
19. Thanks guys! really digging the Alien Bass. Loz.. I like that Wechter but new it would be far to expensive to explain away to the wife... if its going later on let me know - cant promise I will be in a position to buy but let me know and we will see Keep em coming folks - I am liking a lot of these Cheers again! Edd
20. Hey all, I have been playing my acoustic bass quite a lot recently and really like the sound you get from an acoustic. It isnt a cheap one (Tanglewood TW55) but I fancy upping the quality a touch in the near future. I have done a little bit of searching but its pretty difficult to get good info on luthiers who can build acoustic bass's. So far I have found: http://64.180.97.138/kinal/bass.htm (the Kinal Kompact) and: http://www.overwaterbasses.com/expression-series.htm I am after something with good tone, a fairly 'different' design and under £2500. I dont care how loud unplugged it is as I will be amp'ing it anyway. Now I am in no rush as I have to sell the car in my pic first and its a bad, bad time to try and do this so its something I want to do midway through the year or maybe even next year. Plus I have to explain to the wife why I need such a huge amount out of the car sale for yet ANOTHER bass lol. Anyway, does anyone else know of decent luthiers who could make something nice? Any links appreciated! Cheers, Edd
21. Bah! never any money when bargains spring up! Have a free bump on me. Unless you want a well used OLP MM*somethingorother* 5 stringer in black.....
22. Yup, got the 3-10t combo here - awesome bit of kit! Glad you like the 3 (for its size and weight it remarkable)
23. for Kings of Leon i would recommend: California Waiting Four Kicks Joe's Head (really fun bassline) King of the Rodeo Molly's Chambers Red Morning Light Slow Night, So Long (I love playing this btw - my wife hates it lol) Arctic Mondays: Mardi Bum When The Sun Goes Down Queens Of The Stone Age: 3's and 7's Little Sister Sons and Daughters: This Gift Darling Johnny Cash The Von Bondies: C'mon C'mon Not That Social The French Kicks: Don't Thank Me Rilo Kiley: Portions For Foxes The National: Mistaken For Strangers Longwave: I Don't Dare Interpol: PDA Remy Zero: Impossibility Anyway - I like these and learned most of em so they must be good!
24. I just learned 'Two Kinds' by Film School. Really really simple bass line - but its catchy and I was using it to learn to alternate pick (I only ever seem to down stroke fnarr fnarr) Anyway - there arent any tabs for it but its pretty easy to work out especially if check out the Youtube vid of them doing it live. Anyhow - have fun (after all thats what its about!)
