2.
We have a few simple 'disco' lights and you know what it's like. Rummaging around plugging them in means that the lights start and finish a full minute before/after the music - not exactly slick. Now we've got one of these: £20 from Maplins, remote control power supply. Money well spent. Now when we're doing the extended rock cliche big finish (I love those!) on the final beat, out go the lights. Much more impressive. Only a small thing but it makes a difference. I also noticed something similar in Lidl this week for about £12
I hope my wife doesn't find out about this. She will insist it gets connected to my stack and only she has the remote
Too right! I'm building up a nice collection of the too... Just for starters...
Anyone other than me think that's a bass the ladies could appreciate, if you know what I mean (its a touch phallic in the horns dept lol)
Now that's what I call a stomp box! I wonder if I could get a similar effect by just stomping on a microphone though with the same EQ settings?
I don't think the mic would last long doing that!

Logarhythm

Hey all. This isn't really a review I just thought I would put a few thoughts down in case anyone wanted one of these or similar. http://www.log-jam.co.uk/ Its basically a pickup in a wood surround that you 'tap' with your foot. You plug it into an amp and turn the bass up and mid/high down. I do acoustic nights with my acoustic bass (usually plugged in) and this thing rocks for helping fill the mix with some noise. Lets face it drums are large! It makes different tones depending on what type of surface its used on/footwear used and where on the block you tap it. If anyone's after a portable bass drum then I highly recommend it - plus its pretty damn cheap. Anyhoo - that was it really - pointless post but it might be of use to someone. Cheerio! Edd
6.
How about the Ibanez ART B100 short scale. It`s got a set neck and looks kind of Les Paulish. Not played one yet but Merchant city music and Guitar guitar have them for £320. Should be well put together as its an Ibby. Jez
Ooooh GAS attack ..... argh
7. I bought the Shuttle 3-10t combo and when the delivery guy turned up I thought he was giving me an empty box! 10" speaker in an enclosure rated 175w at 8ohms and 300 at 4ohms and it weighs less than 20lb..... including the amp! You are right - its fekkin voodoo. I took it to an open mic night and it filled the place on half volume.
8.
thats a cool bass...at 799 its a bit off my budget http://www.themusicgallery.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=CB10C ps..your tanglewood experience intrigues me..i will check that out...with amp it could be what i want thanks http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product.asp?id=5795 was it this tanglewood bass you got
Yup - thats the one Its got a nice features in that it mutes the lineout when you switch on the built in tuner. (handy when realising your out of tune and have already stepped up to the stage hehe) I dont think I paid that much for mine - and I bought it from SoundsLive about 9 months ago. Thats the credit crunch for you! Any more info needed? Edd BTW its big, about 5 - 6 " deep at its deepest and at least 4 foot, maybe 4' 2" long.
9. Theres one acoustic bass I am aware of thats loud and thats the Tacoma thunderchief. It's very expensive tho. I nearly bought one but relented at the end and spent a bit less on the top of the range Tanglewood acoustic. Its loud enough against a single guitar if I pick it rather than fingers, but amped up its sweet! It has rotosound flats on and sound like an upright bass. I was playing it amped at a local open mic night doing Knocking on Heavens door and the amount of comments I got afterwards abut how nice it sounded made buying it worthwhile. Keep thinking about one - they make sense for practicing anywhere in the house and they are such a unique sound when amped. Anyway - have fun!
10. First bass was/is (I still use it) an Ibanez BTB07Ltd. Please dont laugh folks but the reason I started playing is because I, er, well, erm I imported Rockband for my ps3 on release day in the states and liked playing it I thought why not buy a guitar. So I did and then realised I couldn't handle 6 strings very well. Figured I would try a bass instead as I always felt the basslines of songs before any other part. And that, dear reader, was that. (although I play one other 4 string instrument - the other end of the scale as far as size is concerned. Ukulele!) Sad but true - RockBand made me play!
11. I fancy coming down - that is if anyone near Blackpool could give me and a bit of gear a lift? Anyone?Pleasey weasey?
12. Hi all, If anyone is going from blackpool area I would mind a lift down - I will bring my shuttle 3-10t combo with me so people can have a a/b comparison with the shuttle 6 someone mentioned taking. Also its an oportunity to see how light these tiny combo's are Anyway - if anyone's got room for me (possibly a warwick rockbass corvette active) and my tiny combo I would love putting in for some petrol ! Cheers Edd
13. ********SOLD********** Hey everyone. I have my Ashdown J-Lo OD pedal for sale. I bought it just after I started playing bass so its about 8 months old give or take. It is pretty much as new since I dont gig and I bought a Zoom B2.1u off of someone on the forums (and thats all I use now) Anyway heres a link to the pedal: Dolphin Music - pedal link It will be posted in original box and I will even install a nice shiny new battery for the person who buys it. It is indeed a very good OD pedal, lots to play with so you can tailor the sound pretty well and the bass still cuts through without being too muddy (like some of the cheapy OD pedals) May have a bit of 'mojo' on it as its been lieing around my bass gear, but a quick dust should sort that out as new Paypal or cash on pickup (£40 if you pick it up instead of £45) £45 posted and insured. Thanks all. Edd ********SOLD**********
14. I love my AKG K701's but they're a tad pricey.... Its probably worth a look at lower end AKG models.
15. I spoke to Dolphin about it today (was possibly buying a Warwick Corvette...) but they mentioned that it had to be done in store - although I could do everthing over the phone - they would make sure it would go through - then sign and pick up the instrument in store. So basically you need to physically sign the doc's in the store.
16. Thanks for all the replies guys. I think I know what to go for now. I am gonna have to travel to find a few things to try - but thats par for the course but I have much better idea of whats good.
17. Hey all, Another newbie(ish) question for you all. I wasnt sure where to post this so if its in the worng forum section feel free to move it. Thanks. Recently I have been going to an acoustic night locally and quite fancy performing something. I have teamed up with a workmate who is a guitarist (but not a singer) Anyway - I fancy us trying to workout and play 'Broken Arm' by the Winterpills. I don’t have any issue tabbing it out reasonably accurately. That’s not the problem. My issue is I would be singing and, going by previous experience, I find singing and playing really, really hard. Does anyone have any tips on working on doing both at the same time? Is there anything I should be doing to get better at it other than practicing the song over and over? (Basically I lose all sense of rhythm when I concentrate on the singing OR my singing becomes quite robotic and follows the way my bassline goes rather than the song lol) Any help appreciated! Cheers all, Edd
18.
One of my favourite basses was an Epiphone Thunderbird. If you can live with the neck dive it has a fantastic slim neck
I presently have one. Its still larger/chunkier than my Ibanez though.....
19. Well, its only just into 2009 and already I have gas. Non specific gas - but gas none the less. Hopefully one or two of you fine fellows can help me. Now that I am increasing in skill with the bass I thought I would treat myself to a new one at some point. I fancy a something less common than a Jazz bass (sorry Jazz lovers - I may still get one but not right now) Anyway - the reason I mention the Jazz is because I have several lower end bass's already and out of all of them I get on most with my Ibanez BTB due to the nice slim neck and decent spacing at the pups. (like a Jazz funnily enough!) I was wondering what other Ibanez (or other make) bass's have good string spacing at the pup for my fat fingers yet a nice slim neck? Primarily I like the look of the Ibanez ATK's or the Warwick Rockbass Corvettes. Both are a little less 'metal' looking (otherwise I would just get a better spec BTB) Unfortunately I have no shops close enough, that stock these, for me to just go for a quick look. Any help on my choice of bass would be appreciated. Only 4 stringers btw. The budget is between £350+£700 but don't tell the wife! (the lower the better but something better than my entry level BTB would be excellent) Thanks all! Edd
20.
I've spotted this: http://manchester.gumtree.com/manchester/85/28075985.html Anybody have any experience of these basses, please? A google search doesn't produce much. Steve
A guy I work with knows him - fellow guitarist. The shop he works from is n Preston up here in the sunny north west. I dont know anything about him personally but my mate takes his guitars (not bass's) to him to be set up. If I can get any more information for you I will - do a search for Dalmedo guitars and you should get the site - its a little primitive tho.
21. For some reason I misread that and thought you wanted someone to pick you cabs up........ like a car RECOVERY service lol
