Ian Hill's new model has landed at BassDirect, slimmer/tapered neck, EMG pup & black...man o fekin man...sporrans screaming...wish I'd never seen it now😫

Ohhh. The white one is stellar, as is the black.

Wondering about the pu placement, it seems like the same spot as on the 1977. So it is not like a regulare Ian Hill w/o the bridge pu, but seems to me that with getting rid of the J they moved the P closer to the bridge, too. Any thoughts?

I'm sure Hill never used the J pickup on his previous model just the P on its own, the pickup looks like a P sweetspot position to me. Does look grand in the white aswell real fine, the neck does sound good in the spec bit too 🙂

They're real beauties. No J pup tho? Do his own basses not feature one?

Yeah, the new Ian Hill sig basses look cool. His previous sig used to have a J pick as well but he never used it so they got rid of it as Spector's Taylor McLam mentions in this NAMM video (check from 4:11 onwards). The only issue I have with his new sig is the rather oversized inlay to celebrate JP's 50th anniversary. I would have preferred a more subtle one but hey, it's metal, so bigger is always better 😎

As mentioned, I think an Ian Hill sig model with a more subtle 12th fret inlay, like on the Mike Starr sig bass, would have been nicer and more attractive to non JP fans. I also like the back of the headstock of the Mike Starr bass. Again, nice and subtle.

These are indeed Hill's go to basses now, American Musical Supplies have a 20 odd minute interview online and he does mention that he should have been on stage in America with them at that time. Spector pipes up and say only 50 will be made.

Thought this would be a useful video for many considering the Euro series. So many different variations 😅

Cool video. Like the guy. Knows his stuff. Nice taste of music too. However, the Spector Tonepump is NOT boost only (a common misconception). He also mentions that the 5 string has EMG DC 40 picks but these are TW ones (as correctly mentioned in the subtitles).

Him playing a Megadeth song reminded me of SBL's new video showcasing Dave Ellefson's bass collection. Did not know that he also recorded some albums with a black 4 string Spector NS-2 that he shows from 5:35 onwards. Cool stuff.

All this talk of Ian Hill has got me misty-eyed for Priest. My first proper gig was Priest at the Newcastle City Hall on the British Steel tour in '80, along with Maiden who were supporting... it rocked!

It's been a Priest weekend around my house.. and they still deliver..

Cool stuff. Watching the video and seeing Rob Halford reminded me of his hilarious COVID advice, especially regarding "toilet roll hoarders" (seems like these are coming back). Not sure if anyone already posted it on BC, so here you go:

Same here Edinburgh Odeon 1980. Early Maiden years & still some of their best material.

Speaking of white Spectors, I just had a great and fun rehearsal with my band for our gig on Friday using my Spector Euro 435  (35" Euro 4 LX with solid maple wings)

This is my main live bass since last spring and although I prefer the NS-5XL for recording this is really kicking donkey for playing live.

Since the G string is not a necessity for the gig it is tuned B(A)EAD and I can have the iconic white Spector PJ look onstage 🙂

This is such a great bass, I got rid of the Aguilar P/J that it came with in favor of a X series EMG PJ but kept the Aguilar OBP it came with.

And in action! 🙂

Is that the replacement for the "77" table @Paulhauser ?

😄 😄

Actually no. I have this neck through table in our living room, the '77 table was outside on the porch and now in my cousin's garden.

Got to love an NT table.

Yeah! You know that sustain that these neck through tables have is another level. It really makes your dinner last a lot longer... 😂

But here's the thing - do you actually want more sustain when playing a P pup?

Or do you end up with a dog's dinner on your NT table?

      Hi,
I'm not looking for any trades at the moment but my arm could be twisted by a nice 4 string classic ray with a rosewood fretboard, or a Spector euro LX. (Cash either way)
I had this up for sale a few months ago and withdrew it because I knew I would regret it. However, its time to put my big knickers and to let it go once and for all.
Its a great bass, in great condition (see pics, shout if you would like some more pics).
Check out the following link for details
      https://www.marleaux-bass.com/marleaux-bass_consat_custom.html
I would prefer social distance collection, although I'm happy to drive for an hour to deliver. (say 80 miles top)
I can post, shipping and Insurance will be at the buyers expense
Here is a summary, see pics for weight according to kitchen scales and the width of the nut.
Body: Mahogany Top: Bubinga Neck: Maple Neck: Bolt on. Fretboard: Ebony (No Makers) Frets: 24 Scale: 34 inches Pickups: Delano SBC Electronics: Marleaux EQ BC3 Controls: Master Vol - Pickup Blend - 3-Band Active / Passive Switch: Pickup Split Hardware Finish: Black Tuners: Schaller Colour: Natural Case: Generic Made in Germany Happy to answer any questions.
      Cheers
      Neil.

Reluctantly offered for sale as I have a couple of very expensive incoming purchases....
The Legend 4X Classic takes the classic Thunderbird style into the present.... and is the only 'affordable' Spector featuring the rare custom 'Spectorbird' X body as favoured by Nikki Sixx etc...
The body is crafted from solid maple with a genuine figured maple top in a gorgeous high gloss black stain. The deepset (6 bolt) 24 fret, 34" neck is 3-piece maple with a 24 fret pau ferro fingerboard, complete with dot inlays which I have upgraded with Spector crown fret decals. (Graphite) Nut width is 1.57".
It comes fitted as standard with specially designed Spector SSD humbuckers, which work in conjunction with the onboard Spector TonePump Jr. active tone controls offering 12dB of treble/bass boost for a versatile range of tones.
I have upgraded the previously black hardware to a gold Spector style bridge and gold Gotoh tuners to complete the 'classy' custom look.
The bass is in excellent '9' condition. They appear to have stopped manufacturing these now.... They were originally approx £850 and there are not many available used (e.g. £625 on reverb without upgrades) so, if this body style/look is your thing, don't miss out!
Payment by cash on collection, Paypal (you pay all fees) or Bank Transfer. NO trades please. Courier at buyers cost/choice.
Please see my extensive positive feedback thread for assurance of a clean, honest transaction. Thanks!

***Please delete if outside EU is against the rules (I checked the faq but haven't seen anything about it) ****
Up for sale is a decent 2004 Spector Euro with sold maple wings, EMGs and TonePump preamp.
Great/excellent condition fresh setup/overal check and fresh Rotosound RS66LDs (Sept 17.)
I will ship in the original hard shell case for the buyers expense.
      Located in Florida.

Hi all, this is my first post!
I've got the attached spector bass, bought in UK about 20 years ago! Think its a basic model. Sadly it's sat in garage for most of that time and needs probably £80 spent on it for a service and new strings.
I've seen the attached Farida FJB20 jazz bass for sale for £250 and wondered if the extra £170 for this bass would give me something substantially better?

Beautiful Czech-made Spector 5-String from the early days of the Czech factory. I don't know a great deal about it as I bought it second-hand from the Bass Cellar in Camden a number of years ago, but as far as I'm aware it is a 1998 or 1999 model. There is a 4-digit serial number in the cavity (1385) and the Spector website says these early models cannot be dated from the SN.

      Photos here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/c33c7uetzjj504z/AAB78HsE0yOOshxi_e5rFS0ka?dl=0

      EDIT - sound samples here:

Looking for £1000 £800 ono . In terms of trade I’d be interested in a Japanese Les Paul custom, eg burny/greco/tokai.

Will ship at buyer’s expense to the UK. If I find someone who is interested I’ll make appropriate arrangements to get it shipping ready, including sorting out a hardcase - i have no need for a hardcase  unless there’s a buyer so it’s a little chicken and egg!
