Geek99 Posted November 7, 2008 Share Posted November 7, 2008 i have an "OK" cheap one off ebay - but based on that experience.... spend money to get a solid, not laminated top. light strings work better - you can just turn up louder make sure you like the action as adjustment is slow and painful to do check the string volume balance on the pickup - mine is quiet on the lower strings. At £115 it's great value and sounds just fine. I wanted a cheap acoustic to leave in the living room so I can just pick it up for a couple of minutes here and there and not worry if it gets jumped on by the kids. Huge amounts of interest and compliments from other bassists and punters alike. This model has the slatted soundhole, spruce top and mahogany back/sides with a piezo saddle pickup and onboard controls. I am not so sure this particular model "20" is still made. What i mean is did it arrive in a playable state straight away? I've never liked buying stuff off the net but to get it at that price is really good. Kiwi Posted November 23, 2008 Share Posted November 23, 2008 definitely try before you buy on acoustics. Depending on how they're made, the response across the strings can be very inconsistent. Generally, the brighter and louder the instrument, the better its put together. I've played some cracking instruments that were only 170 quid. Watch for wobbly necks too. It's great value for the money, has a lovely warm tone unplugged, and It's pretty decent plugged in also. However, It's goes out of tune all the time, I don't know why, it just does. If you read the reviews they come out on top. I have used it for a couple of Sunday night gigs but want to sell if you are interested as I no longer do that gig.
