Owen
It is lush! My '66 came with a huge "F" stamped on the bridge cover. No idea if my cover is original or not, but the cover with this one is blank. It lush even without an "F" cover Here is a link to an auction for a 63 cover with an "F" http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1963-FENDER-JAZZ-BAS...id=p3286.c0.m14 Edited October 12, 2008 by owen

P
... and that one transaction was purchasing some screws for a 74 Strat/Precision/Jazz! Hmmmm I have to say that I'm not convinced by the wear and tear on the body of the bass and is it me or maybe the camera angle but is the view up that neck looking distinctly twisted or what? The tortie plate and the general look of the fingerboard look distinctly old but the whole listing/bass smells a funny colour to me.
Ou7shined
It's attracted a few extra bids since I 1st saw it, but when I did I thought... shy for PayPal, very low fb and no reserve - hmmm. I know nowt about real Fenders so kept schtum. If he could link to his 400 strong fb account it might help.

Saying that he is up for collection... glad I'm not in the market for a 60's Jazz as that'd be a tricky one to call but ultimately I think I'd steer clear unless I could go along and try before I buy! 6stringbassist
To me the wear looks odd, it's all on the face of the body, (looks a bit like a dart board).

You'd just have to email the other account to see if it was truly associated to him. You'd have to be a right mug to risk your 400 fb's for a mate knocking a scam. And yeah that neck does look a bit dodgy. You could possible say that the machine heads are making it sit at a funny angle and the perspective is bent by the camera, as I initially thought but I just a wee experiment. I put a loaded neck on my carpet and the heel sits flat on the floor as though it it never had any machine heads at all. YMMD.
The Burpster
That bass is more fishy than a fishy thing that smells of tuna... a REAL '64 would have a start price with an extra (or maybe even 2) zeroes behind it. Its just wrong. At best its a re issue reliced, at worse just a reliced MIM.....
Owen
But it is well lush though. C'mon, admit it!

Jebo1
I spoke to the guy about this, and he has said that I am more than welcome to come and look at the bass and perform any checks I like. It wouldn't be too hard to see whether this one was a 'good un' or a 'bad un'. On first impressions, I'd have concern about the finish, the covers and the straightness of the neck. Same as anything of this value (and age) you'd be daft not to go and check it out and take her to bits... I'd say the seller assumes it's genuine, but probably has no real idea of how to check that it is.
warwickhunt
Any idea why this would have been pulled the first time around? I can't remember the listing breaching any spamming/payment/PayPal conditions!
Kev
he says in the listing, it was pulled because he said he PREFFERED not to be paid by paypal god i hate that website and their monopolising ways
Paul Cooke
when did Fender start using crosspoint screws?
warwickhunt
Well someone must want it pretty badly, it's up to £3500 with 4 days to go! I sure hope the winner knows his stuff when he goes to collect, as I'd want to be ABSOLUTELY certain that was original and genuine for that much money. They were using philips/crosshead screws on pickguards from 1952/3 onwards. And the mounting screws for tuners changed around 1957 to philips/crosshead.
