Sooooo - I've changed my mind about the bigger board (again!), and gone back to the PT Mini!

Really happy with the pedals, just can't fit all 6 onto a mini, and a PT JR just seems too big (especially as I walk to practise)... so the OC-2 can live on the floor :)

Pedal arranging must be really annoying - from that pic you'd think 1 more would fit on there! Top mount jacks for the win!!!

Surely 2 of those straight through jack connectors would allow you to put the 2 mxrs closer and tuck the oc2 right up next to the tuner?

Well, it may just squeeze on, but for playing live it would be next to useless as everything would be too close together....

Maybe i'm less co-ordinated than others! But even with these 5 pedals i sometimes hit the tuner when going for the BB, as i'm bouncing about too much :)

I'd do that with the Boss, but be careful with the MXRs as they almost always use board-mounted jacks, and unless the pedals are bolted down you can put strain on the PCB when pressing the switch.

Good point. And breaking mxr pedals is a bad idea since they won't send schematics out to repairers, even for pedals that aren't produced any more. Customer service at it's best...

That is absolutely ridiculous isn't it?!

Got the B7K today. I like it but the EQ certainly gives you something to think about; I found dialling in tones more difficult than the B3K but it is certainly more flexible. Will have to see how it sounds live:

Beautiful taste in pedals. Does the Thumpinator change your tone at all by acting as a buffer? Or is the tone unchanged when its taken out of the chain?

Thanks dudes. The Thumpinator doesn't change the tone as far as I can tell. I took it out the chain out of curiosity and noticed a slight roll off of treble (no buffers between bass and amp). Currently have two buffers now (Thump and B7K) and I don't perceive a difference in tone running clean.

For me a different story; I didn't notice much of a difference when placing the Thumpinator last in the chain, but when I put it first it made a quite audible difference. I got a tighter sound, a better fundamental, and slightly less of those unwanted string overtones and fret noise. It shouldn't affect the upper frequencies, but maybe this was an effect of the buffering. Much more "together" tone in my case. Maybe the effect of the Thumpinator depends on what basses/microphones and effects you have. It seems to pay off to move it around a bit and hear where it's best placed though, some have the opposite experience from mine, best effect when placed last in the chain.

Cheers. I have a similar set-up without the Thumpinator and wondered if it made any difference to any loss in tone that may occur through using 5 or so true bypass pedals? I didnt realise the B7K had a buffer right enough and I had assumed it was true bypass like the B3K. Is there any need for a buffer with as few as 5 true bypass pedals and two 20ft cables? Id hate to think I was losing tone from my bass due to not having any form of buffer on my board. The Thumpinator is still on my want list regardless of its use as a buffer but if it was of value to my setup as a buffer as well as its other benefits then it will definitely be my next purchase.

It's hard to say. I guess it's down to personal preference and equipment. I tried running an active Fender through my equipment and noticed a very slight treble roll off. Noticed it more with a passive. I'd say it's healthy to have at least one buffer on a board. With an active bass it's not as important but if you had only passives I'd definitely put one in the chain.

The B7K has to have a buffered bypass in order for the DI to work when the pedal's disengaged apparently.

Mine, as of last night's gig:

It would be a bit neater with the BGP and BD the other way around, but I can't get the lid closed! :-(
