Hi folks, just to settle a discussion please.
Following photos of matching head stock Burgundy Mist jazz :gas:

I think it's one of the Mex Classic Series 60's reissues from around 2002. There have been a few sold on here generally at around £450/£550.

T'other chap thinks it's a 62 RI (and that the Mex Classic 60's RI was based on the 62 RI.

Don't worry, neither car or house deeds will change on the outcome :D

Ta,
Karl.

MZ serial number = Made in Mexico, Karl (as does the small "Made in Mexico" underneath said serial number  ). The Classic 60s is based on the 62 RI to a point from what I`ve read, and is also meant to be a quality bass - if it`s anything like it`s 70s cousin then it def is.

Hi Karl,

That looks an interesting one!

I have just dug out the Fender Frontline brochures from 2002 and 2003 and there is a '60s Jazz Bass shown but no specific mention of '62. However, it states it was only available in Sunburst, Olympic White and Black and all came with a tort pickguard. There is certainly no mention of Burgundy Mist, white pickguard and matching headstock!

I wonder if it was a special run? It certainly looks a nice find!

Thanks gents, really appreciated.
I might not be quite as dimwitted and opinionated as somebody thinks

Just let me know what said that about you Karl and I'll have a little word in his shell-like (with my baseball bat).

Shame about the dings on the neck though.

Yes David. FSR, and what Daniel said (below).

Yes, they were a FSR but were available for quite some time. I very nearly bought a BM Jazzmaster at the time, great colour :)

Thanks Daniel :)

Alain, you should be congratulating him on his astuteness

OK, many of us have had fleeting conversations with the guy in question, as he often pops up on sale threads here, with the comment "trades?".
The "debate" that brought about my question was on a facebook sales thread.

One bloke is currently selling one of these at £795.
I think HE bought it recently, at £795, off the guy I was having the debate with. I think the CURRENT seller started to be a touch concerned about the advert he had bought it from.
BOTH of these blokes appear to have the same surname, which complicates it.

The guy who I was having the debate with, well, I'm fairly sure he bought it off here at around £500, then sold it on Facebook to the CURRENT seller at £795. Quite within his rights of course.
HOWEVER, the guy NOW selling it was advertising it as a 62 RI. I commented that I was fairly sure it was in fact a Classic 60's series FSR Mex, and as far as I was aware, the 62 RI had strap button on back of headstock and earthing strip.

Then the original seller jumped in, put me in my place with some lovely internet sarcasm. I deleted my comments as I didn't want to screw up the CURRENT sellers advert.

So, if you followed that lot, your honorary PHD is in the mail

I think I need to go and lie down in a dark room with a dam flannel on my head after that Karl. I think I'll just skulk around Hindley looking a bit menacing then.

Is it the same bass currently on Evilbay?

Bearing in mind the contradictions identified by some of the guys here, do we know for sure that this isn't a bass of mixed origin?
[/quote]

Designed in California, made in Mexico and living in the UK isn't mixed origin enough for you? :)

Ahhhhh.... well, THAT explains everything.

I was just thinking if Mexico never made that type of bass in a Mist finish, but the neck is clearly MiM, then maybe it's a bitsa. But I'm sure I MUST be wrong and this HAS to be from the Mexico Custom shop. :)

Ah, the infamous Mexican Custom Shop, that's to blame for many a mess... Remember the Splattercaster?

This is 100% legit, I was a sales rep for Arbitor and then Fender at the time. They were a special run, and very nice too.

Thanks lads.
As I understand it, there were;
62 US RI's
62 Japan RI's
62 Custom Shop RI's.

But NOT a specific, official 62 MEX RI.

So, it's being advertised as something it isn't imo.
I know these were a FSR, a few have sold on here, EXACTLY the same model, the Classic 60'S Series FSR, at between £450/£550.
I think the current seller paid £795 for it after seeing 62 RI in the ad (on Facebook).
Buyer beware, yes, I know, but it just leaves a bit of a hollow feeling, seeing somebody that (imo) has been a little misled.

The guy selling it bought it from a member from here.
The member paid about £500 for it, on here a few months back.
It's not the 1st time that member has pulled off something like this.
Just not my kind of behaviour hence my "fabrication" in my original post.

I don't know why I get worked up about this sort of thing, but it just "doesn't seem cricket" to me :( .
Cheers,
Karl.

I came back to your thread here Karl, as it is being sold an another Facebook group (not the one you commented on) by the person who you call the original seller, so one bass, two different sellers (albeit the same surname).

Ooof that's a bit nice. Very 'Betsy'!

If you are interested, don't hesitate, that's a bargain price for a profit making retailer and I would almost guarantee Mark won't have it in the shop for long :)

I agree Karl, but I find myself being a bit more picky these days - was a time I absolutely had to have any bass which I thought would be good for me. Through tons of trial and error I've come to the conclusion that I prefer maple fingerboards, with a definite lean towards Fenders and Fenderlikes. I'll leave that one to someone who'll make proper use of it.......
