I'd be wary of the hardware. Al's original build thread is the Lemonbaker bass that this guy claims is the same build. If so, the original PUs he used on the build have both been replaced, possibly by cheap ebay crap.
I'd expect to find a lot of ugly, ham-fisted hackery under the bridge pickup surround, in order to accommodate that MM type. These are a lot wider than the size of route the original Rick pup would have had.

Didn't think of that but yeah, it could be a mess under there.
The original Lemonbaker has a 'Lemonbaker' TRC. Can't see it on the ebay one.

Truckstop
Yeah. Tends to be the case that all the Shaftesburys, Hondos, Arias, CMIs, Kasugas, Arbiters, Ibanezes etc usually tend to mysteriously part company with their original TRCs prior to their Ebay debuts too!

I'm not sure but I seem to remember the Lemonbacker name being connected to the guy Al built it for. Maybe he'll come on this thread & clarify.

Surprised he included a photo of the TRC.

That bass is a Hondo.

Yeah. I'm guessing this has caught the eye of some Rick aficionados and and they've placed silly bids on it to stop someone else being fooled. Either that or a few people want a Rick and don't really know what a genuine one looks like. :)

Tell 'em this has established a new benchmark for the most anyone's spent on a lump of Korean plywood!

I'd do it myself but I'm banned there... :)

This is rather nice, and a cute advert too:

I could be tempted to have a pop at this one.

Rare as in they didn't try and make a Tokai link.

I'm on that one! Hands off - lol! No, seriously alls fair in love & evilBay.. I like the humour of the ad. & the bass looks very cool. & sounds good too, according to the Vender..

I've been looking at those ProBass Retrovibes - there's one on the Bay ATM - but read a few disturbing things.

What I want is that Ric look & as close to Ric tone as I can get on a budget, having had to part with my 2 Rics this year - a 75 4001 & an 03 c64. The price of another broken relationship, & frankly a price I just had to pay!

Any advice? (on Ric-a-likes, not my relationship issues!)

Apart from the Matsumokus, the Kasugas, the Shaftesburys (dunno who made them!) the Kawai/Fernandes... Tino, the mid-70s Ibbys are gorgeous, but they were single most inaccurate MIJ Faker ever! Gibson-type Mudbuckers? :)

Greenman555 - what bad stuff have you heard about the Retrovibes? I'm seriously considering a red one, & all the guys on here that have had 'em are full of praise.

I feel they were trying to evade copyright and as such these should possibly not be Fakers but a very good bass in their own right,I liked the MB it was a lot more transparent than the similar looking Gibson product....I am actually regretting selling mine in favour of keeping my Maya Telecaster bass......so much so that Im on the hunt for another Ibby, but good unabused examples are thin on the ground of late....
