But the sizeable drop in output between it and my Sadowskys is becoming a problem, and I'd like to find a pickup with a bit more oomph. Can anyone make some recommendations please? I'm not mad keen on anything too 'hi-fi' ish and don't want to be fitting matteries - just looking for a good, high output passive, vaguely 'vintage sounding' passive pup. Clarky Posted August 24, 2008 Share Posted August 24, 2008 Try Seymour Duncan - they have several passive P replacement pickups ranging from vintagey to high output full-on rock - their website lists them all and allows you to compare and contrast. I have the Quarter-Pounder full-on p'ups and they have very high output, suited to metal/punk/loud rock. I also have a P with an old DiMarzio P pickup which has, if anything, more output than the Quarter-Pounder and looks well cool in aged cream. josh3184 Posted August 25, 2008 Share Posted August 25, 2008 wizard for sure! just send him an email of phone him and he's happy to modify the standard wizard thumper to whatever sound you're wanting and I've not known him to charge extra for that, though why you wouldn't want that tone is beyond me Mega thumbs up for them, Andy's a top bloke! SD, Dims and Schaller, (and my favorite Barts) will all offer you 'off the shelf' upgrades to your output. Wizards I agree would be a huge leap forward for you as you can disscuss your spec with them and they can custom wind them... That being said, I havent found the need after discovering Barts...... I just fitted a set taken from a 57/62 reissue and my first impression is that they are *much* better than anything else I've tried (and I've tried a lot). Fat bottom end, gnarly, growly, punchy, well defined. I certainly wouldn't want to sacrifice that for a bit more output, although we might be talking about different pickups here. Duarte Posted August 25, 2008 Share Posted August 25, 2008 Hey, check out the curtis novak charlie christian style P pickup. Curtis wires his pickups by hand, and they have fantastic tone. The charlie christian has FAT ton without the massive midrange boost (or the scoop asscosiated with the seymour 1/4 pounder) Just a suggestion.
