Pixiechick23
This particular design is unpadded, because the width of the strap and the contour distributes the weight evenly over the player's body. As, such, the design isn't suited to padding. I can design a padded strap for you if you like. Email me Karl
I'll drop you a line when I get back home That would be awesome
Karl Derrick
Here's the sign up/order thread. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/243139-karls-ergonomic-leather-bass-strap/ Thanks guys, Karl
Karl Derrick
So, this project seems to be dead in the water. After all the design and prototype work, not a single order for the ergonomic bass strap. Karl
discreet
PM Sent. Hmm... my PM doesn't want to send for some reason. Anyway, I'll have a strap, Karl - just as soon as I can reasonably afford it. Car is hoovering up my disposable as usual. Bolo
The design looks solid. Showing it with a bass and/or on a person may help things along. Also, as a handcrafted premium product, it's a niche market. For the work put in, the price is certainly fair. However they are more costly than many other designs currently available. A highly custom product like this will need to prove itself 'in the flesh'. I'm sure the difference in comfort with ordinary straps is huge! Karl Derrick
Thanks. I understand the handmade/niche market thing. I agree, it needs to be seen, worn and used to prove itself. Yes, it really is a lot more comfortable than normal straps. I tried the sample with the equivalent of a 14 Pound bass and it was very comfortable, the weight spread evenly over the back and shoulders, without and pressure points, Smooth and even. Karl Derrick
Of course, the huge expanse of leather on view lends itself to all kinds of embellishment. Karl
Dave_the_bass
I'm definitely interested, but: 1, I don't have the spare funds at the moment. 2, Last time I tried a wide strap (4" I believe) it really dug in to my neck/shoulder area As a result: Has anyone in the Midlands bought one so I can go a visiting and test it out? Pixiechick23
I'm still interested I just don't have the funds at the moment, although I think I was going to talk to you about getting something padded to help my shoulder injury out. I'll be dropping you a line as soon as I have funds
Karl Derrick
OK, sure. When you're ready. Never too early to start kicking ideas around, though... I just acquired a lovely Fender Marcus Miller Jazz bass from a member here. I'll test the new prototype ergonomic strap on it. The Millers aren't known for being feather-weight If anyone would like to test the proto out, it can be borrowed for the cost of two way postage. I believe in the honour system. Karl Derrick
Or possibly send it direct? Kind of a pay-it-forward arrangement..... I will need to keep track of where it is, as it's the only datum for the design. One of a kind. It must come home I've punched a load more strap button holes along the tail, so there's more range of fitting for the proto. The ones made to measure will only have one hole. Karl Derrick
Yes, signed for is a must. Insurance I'm less bothered about since I can make another. The information is the valuable part. The whole exercise is about you guys trying it, giving feedback, etc. So pics are a great idea. You'll need to bear in mind that this hasn't been made for your measurements, so it won't be perfect. ead
Please add me to the list. Paying to go to the next person seems best then everybody only pays one postage.
