Confyyy Posted April 6, 2013 Share Posted April 6, 2013 Hi guys. Looking for a little advice if you can help After playing bass for just over a year I'm finally ready to move to a half stack. I've got a Marshall MB450H head and looking to get either a 410 cab or 115 cab. I was wondering what you guys thought? I will get both eventually to be honest but on a very tight budget. I can get the 115 used for £100 or the 410 for new for £250. I would prefer the 410 but as I can't afford just right now I was thinking of getting just the 115 for now. gsgbass Posted April 6, 2013 Share Posted April 6, 2013 (edited) I went the road with the MB Marshall Series. I'd do the MBC410 cab. A bit more versatile than the MBC115. One thing I didn't like about the MBC cabs, the speaker grill rattles on some. That's why I went back to speaker cloth on the Ampeg SVT-410HLF. One other thing, the Ampeg cab is made with Baltic Birch Plywood. xgsjx Posted April 6, 2013 Share Posted April 6, 2013 I used to have 2 Marshall 15" cabs back in the late 80s & early 90s (can't rememember which model, but they were Celestion loaded). JTUK Posted April 6, 2013 Share Posted April 6, 2013 I would go 410 as I prefer them... and I'd expect any decent 410 to slaughter a 115 anyway. As the prices you mention I doubt the cabs be will too special anyway, tbh..altho you might luck out. Best bang for buck cab, IMO, consistantly, would be an SWR Goliath ll/lll which go for around £250..ish.. They are getting on for 20yrs old now and the competition has caught up but in their day, were pretty much the standard. All you need to do is find one with good speakers in it... and they will be PAS which were decent. You don't want to be hunting around for replacements though as you can't get them ... But if the cab has been looked after..bargain, IMO. The only reason you see so many of them around is because a 410 is traditionally HEAVY.. and there are lighter options. As with all these things, there are cabs and CABS... so be careful going for cheap... best to go for band for buck, IMO Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

But the MB450 & matching 410, did loads of gigs with it, was a great set-up. Marshall get a bit of a blasting but I don`t think their bass gear is anywhere near as bad as it`s made out. Cheers guys [/quote] I'd be looking for a second-hand Peavey 410TX or 410TVX - you should be able to pick one up for around £100 and they are good sounding cabs if you don't mind a bit of weight. badboy1984 Posted April 7, 2013 Share Posted April 7, 2013 Both of those cabs is very heavy. Specially the 4x10 cab. What type of music you play and how big is the gig you play as well. rumour6 Posted April 9, 2013 Share Posted April 9, 2013 A 410 moves roughly as much air as a 215 so any single 15 would have to be pretty efficient.. that aside I've been using 10s/15s mixed for yonks and have just gone back (shows age) to a standard 215 (Trace 1524) with my SVT Classic... just more ooommmfff, Seems to be plenty of top for me (no tweeter). Yeah they're heavy, but they're cheap, they're indestructible, sound great, there's loads of them about so you can expand your rig whenever you feel like it and they look doom. You'll also be able to sell it on for the same money in a few years because it'll still be in exactly the same condition! Other worthy mentions are Ashdown ABM cabs and the aforementioned SWR Goliath cabs. Go for a 4x10 if you can, I think a lot of people prefer them. They simply move more it and go louder (or can increase perceived volume over a 1x15). We all want matching rigs, but sometimes other brands just do stuff better.
