Sham 69 were on stage with Jimmy Pursey in his usual rabble rousing phase and getting various skins etc up on stage to join in on 'If the Kids are United'. Then, in the corner of the stage a mysterious long haired, mostly orange clad, figure hits the stage, plugs in his guitar and begins to solo over the top of the cacophony going on all around him. It was great to see him on the 2009 tour in Bristol with Hillage & Miquette too!... A fantastic gig! This is a great thread..... Very surprising & informative ...That's what I like about Basschat!... They hadn't sorted the neck very well - and I'm not sure if it was carbon fibre - anyway it's definitely worth playing before parting with money. Vigier stopped production of them a couple of years ago - I can't believe it! Mine is an exceptional bass - the action, sustain, sound (in all areas) are outstanding! I have been wondering for a while about passing on some 'bass themed' thoughts regarding Gong and SHB (and Bill Nelson) material but didn't know where to post where it would be appreciated - maybe this is the place! I've learned a hell of a lot since getting the Gong/SHB gig in 2009 - from learning the (surprisingly difficult) material - to learning to play the fretless with an intense and solid feel. [/quote] Well... surprising in the way that... a discussion about Gong & related stuff [i](...which has actually happened before here, if my memory serves me![/i][i])[/i] ..is much more popular than I would have imagined!.... [i](I always seemed to be the 'fringe dweller' with my musical likes, in my youth...but I obviously wasn't alone!)[/i]...during which, a current Gong bass player pops up to share his experience..... a[i]ppreciated![/i] .....a guitarist friend of mine visits Basschat because he finds it much more interesting & 'genuine' than many of the guitar forums... which he feels are predominantly populated by pubescent egos trying to out shred each other!.... Will need an expression pedal too. So any progress on your bass thoughts regarding Gong and Hillage? I and others will be fascinated to read them! The Softstep is a really useful piece of kit - and so easy transport. I used to use a Behringer 1010 which was fine but unwieldy. The Softstep is also extremely programmable - though you'll need extremely dextrous feet to take advantage of the multi function buttons! They are now distributed by MSL who also do Markbass gear - they are very supportive. As for bass thoughts from Planet Gong . . . would love to get it together - but I'm extremely busy atm with various projects (including a new Gong album) - no time for reflection! Being a bit of a Gong and Howlett nerd fan (a few conventions ahem!) I was wondering how Gong would now sound with the new line up...anyhow you did me proud and the new guitar guy (name escapes me) was great too - brilliant . Thanks for sharing your rig wizardy too...i must confess to geeking over it to my uninterested wife enroute home after last years Exeter gig. Is Steffi Sharpstrings still part of the equation?
