New Markbass set-up - Mini CMD121P & NY121

Just a brief post, took delivery of the above on Sat, as can no longer deal with 4x10s, even my Markbass one at 50lbs.

So, used the new little set-up this eve, and am blown away by how good it is. All eq at midday, including VLE & VPF, with my Precision, Gain on 7, Volume on 3. Could feel the bass as well as hear it.

So, have used it with one band, and couldn`t be more pleased. Just hope my Roqsolid covers turn up soon - don`t want my new cabs getting rained on.

Of course, nothing will ever have the presence of an all-valve head and an 8x10, but for the gigs I play, I`d never be able to use one of those to its full potential anyway - so my new set-up is the right one for me. Bags of power, quality sound, which can be felt as well as heard, and can carry each in one hand. It may be possible to say I`m chuffed.

Rayman has this rig. Check out his pic in the Precision porn thread, showing the rig with his fiesta red 50s P. I once owned the same rig and it was ace, only sold to make way for "specialist " DB amplification. Nice score Lozz and back friendly too

Yes, I saw Raymans post yesterday Clarky. I just can`t get over how all of that sound comes from such a cute looking rig. And agree, very back friendly.

I don't understand why you didn't just get the 2 112 cabs and keep your MB Tube 500.

Ah, all part of a sinister master-plan Chris. One of my bands has 8 members, and setting up/breaking down in little venues when other bands are also on the bill, well it`s easier to do this with a combo, than a head and seperate cab(s) - for this band I`ll only be using the combo. Plus it`s less gear to carry about. It might not seem much, but it all helps, especially when trying to keep down to as few vehicles as possible.

Share the soft spot for markbass though using a different rig (2 by 10 and 1by 15 traveler cabs with f500 amp) Always get compliments on the sound and its ultra reliable

[i]Got to agree with all you markbass fans iv always swore by my ampeg stack but a few months ago one of my mates was playing in his band and using markbass there was loads of musos wacthing and at least 4 bass players and we all said how good it sounded.I went out and bought a 2x10 combo and liked it that much i went out and bought a 151hf cab and cant believe the sound .The other good thing about my combo is i can carry it in one hand and my bass in the other not bad for an old 5 foot weaklin.[/i]

I was exactly the same Hadge, Ampeg was the brand that I loved. However, every time I saw a band and the bassist was using Markbass gear, I loved how the sound just fitted so well into the mix. So my first Markbass set-up was the Little Mark Tube 500 & Standard 104HR cab that I have up for sale. Fantastic rig, but I just can`t lift a 410 anymore, not even a lightweight 50lb like the 104HR. Hence my new rig. And just got back from band practice with my other band, and it`s just as good for that one as well. I`m so pleased with this cute little set-up, the sound/power is amazing. And so easy to cart about too.

[b]Tell you something lozz the more you use it the more you will like it i play in a rock and roll band and get the perfect sond from my combo i also play in a rock band with both guitarist using marshall stacks and a drummer who thinks hes building a shed and when i first used my markbass they could not believe it i cut threw the guitars like no ones business people at the front saying how good it sounds and people at the back telling me the same thing.Iv got loads of gear ashdown combo peavey combo ampeg stack and since getting my markbass the rest of the gear stops in my workshop gathering dust .Good luck with your new gear mate .[/b]

I am one who never hears a good sound from anyone using a Markbass and I think it is their cabs.
Big fan of the MB 102 combo but you can't turn them up... fortunately. It is a practice/rehearsal amp, IMO
I've used various versions of the 112 combo as well with extn cabs and even on stage you hear it start to wallow.
And whenever I am out front that is what I hear a few times over...so much so that when I discussed this with a
bass playing mate, he said he bought Epis 12's instead..to go with the MB amp.

If you know the sounds of Epifanis with their soft pillow, or low mid thud, as I would describe it... that is the attempt of someone trying
to tighten up the low end...so to pick these over MB cabs, says a whole lot.

Hi must say i used to have Epis and must admit they were very good but the markbass to me is one of the best amps and cabs on the market and every time i here a good band they mostly use markbass as for my combo i never struggle with volume and thats playing in a rock band with guitarist using marshall stacks and only know one volume and that is max volume, but every bass player is different and we all have our own opinions so i say whatever your happy with just use it. Good luck to all you bass players whatever you use and keep on rocking.

Exactly JT, if we all liked the same gear life would be less interesting. I love finding out what amps/basses/cabs suit people - especially if I`ve seen them play. I must be a gear-head after all.

couldnt agree more!!!

i really like being suprised by an amp also years or playing the gear that ppl say i should have been playing for a rock gig ie ampeg! it really is a good idea to open your mind up a bit! when looking at an amp.

Just randomly, this reminded me of when I lent my F1 + 104HF to a bassist on a gig. He was using a cheap ass BC rich bass with a P pickup. I set the EQ flat for him, and put the VLE at 8 o'clock and the VPF at 10 o'clock. It was quite honestly the best Precision Bass tone I had ever heard!

It's the bloody limiter, it destroys your tone and that 'open'ness when you turn up past 9 o'clock on the master

I have the same rig too although 98% of my gigs are on double bass these days. I think it sounds great and I certainly don't hear any "wallow" or over-active limiting, even when I play slab. Each to his own I guess.

Might be a combination of having two cabs instead of just one, and generally not having to turn up as much

Not to labour a point.... but in the interest of exchange of ideas and interpretation, I am not a fan of the amps, which have pretty much all been
LM types, when you have to drive them. It is a particular problem for me as I almost need 400-500w, due to playing with a very light touch and
everyone I know gets far more 'poke' than I do from their respective rigs... so when I am doing that with most amps, they seem to run out of guts.
It isn't that they will not do the volume so much as they will not retain the sounds, I set them up for...
You could say set them up for 'loud' but it isn't quite so simple, and Markbass aren't the only amps...by any means, that don't amp up well, by my definition.

I just think they soulnd waaay too different thru their gain stages than I like.... but for sure, they aren't alone in that

I've recently just bought a second hand markbass traveller 151 cab (original 2007 design) and have loved how clean and low but yet powerful the lightweight cab is...have definitely been coverted
