IMD Digital - serious company?

A friend of mine found a Gibson Les Paul from 1974 for sale at a very competitive price on a Swedish ad forum, www.vend.se.

It turns out the people behind the ad runs this site: www.imd-digital-ltd.com and claim a serious music store in London is behind it.

In general here in Sweden, as people tend to be rather fair English readers and speakers, we get a bit suspicous when someone has obviously used Google Translate to create an ad text in "Swedish". Furthermore, some of the prices on that homepage are amazingly low.

So does anyone here know anything about this company? Are they legitimate?

Thanks in advance

Andreas

That looks pretty suspicious. For a company based in London to only have prices in Euros on the website looks very dodgy straight away. Everything they have listed is below market value and they only offer payment via bank transfer. Some of the English is a little questionable too. I could be wrong but there are plenty of concerns there that would put me off spending big money with them,

I would find it very hard to believe that they really hold all that kind of stock, and no one heard of them before... A 1955 gibson gold top les paul for less than 3000 euros? Also, the site keeps on giving 404 file not found errors, and other dubious warnings. there is a phone number listed, maybe worth a call?

Run away very very fast, don't look back.

Compare the description of 2003 Gibson Les Paul on IMD Digital and scroll right to the bottom of this page for an identical description, sold from New Jersey on 2011.

Please do not buy anything off this website: www.imd-digital-ltd.com. The people behind it use identity of an existing UK company that has nothing to do with this website. The website is an absolute scam, and you will be left without money and goods you were expecting to receive. If you came across this forum because you have not received any goods you purchased from this site please make sure you report this incident to the police.

Thanks for the confirmation. While looking for more information, I found the same instruments being sold on Gumtree-like classified listings sites in Munich and Sydney using IMD Digital as the user id, so they're casting the net very wide.

To spinynorman and anyone else able to help: Would you be able to post links to adverts found on the internet as these need to be removed ASAP? Your help is much appreciated.

Not now the site's gone. All I did was copy part of the description of any product on the site into Google, with quote marks round it, and up popped the links. Some just came up in summary lists, the actual ad had gone.

Here's one though.

I recently saw a 62 Precision in Belgium for sale and landed on the same site..
I was very suspicious and called them scammers but they replied "We are a serious shop, what are you suggesting ?"
I told them I didn't believe a thing of their sales and wrote that they should quit stealing from musicians and get a proper job..
They reacted furious so I told them I would apologise if they could send me a picture of that bass with a recent newspaper..
I've been waiting for a week now and nothing has popped up...

They're not hiding their address; maybe one of the London contingent could looksee sometime to see if it's a legit shop or just a registered address?

Contact info
IMD DIGITAL LTD.
219 Kensington High Street, London

probably neither - google street view shows a black door for numbers 217 and 219 with entry buzzers (unfortunately pic too small to read any detail)

companies house website does not have any listing of IMD DIGITAL LTD so i guess they may be in breach of the Companys Act by publicly declaring themselves a limited company when they would appear not to be

FWIW the address given is used by several companies and is likely to be the office of an accountant or solicitor. There's nothing wrong with this, it's quite often done by very small companies that don't have their own office premises.

There's a company registration for IMD Trading Ltd, which is the legitimate company that trades bathroom fittings on eBay. One of the previous names they used was IMD Digital, but they changed it in Nov 2011. The website, as we were told in post #15, had nothing to do with the owners of IMD Trading or IMD Digital. By the look of the classified ads so called IMD_Digital is posting all over the world, they're targeting people outside the UK who wouldn't find it so easy to check up on them.
