Seems OK now, but I was certainly having troubles earlier.

It seems to have been a routing problem - I was able to ping everything shown in a tracert from here all the way through to the BassChat IP address and there it failed.

If I RDP'd onto another desktop which has a different ISP (and therefore a different default route) I was able to get a response from the BC IP address.

...which is a posh way of saying that there's probably a datacentre out there that's had builders in today and one of them unplugged a router to make room for his drill... :)
