Perhaps there's some ongoing work on the host servers, with some of them being taken offline in turn. The site's speed seems normal today, so far. It seems to have been a routing problem - I was able to ping everything shown in a tracert from here all the way through to the BassChat IP address and there it failed. If I RDP'd onto another desktop which has a different ISP (and therefore a different default route) I was able to get a response from the BC IP address. ...which is a posh way of saying that there's probably a datacentre out there that's had builders in today and one of them unplugged a router to make room for his drill...
