hi thinking of one of these two as the head for my new mini rig with a 2x10 2x12 or 1x12
need enough oomph to compete with a loud drummer and 2 x plank spankers
both going for around 350 on thomann with 3yrs waranty which seems good compared to some sh prices and i like the idea of a warranty
although never bought from thomann
any one any advice of either head or thomann
cheers Guys

What's the return policy like? How much does it cost are you returning to Germany?

The returns policy is fantastic....

...but I'm not sure how much it would cost. As it's a light-weight and small head then if it's £10 or so then it might be worth it to be able to do a direct side-by-side comparison. Just a thought.

The Markbass heads are amazing, even 250w should be powerful enough.

The MiBass I haven't yet heard, so I would probably stick with what I know (they dont look as cool to me either;)) although they get rave reviews! Obviously has more than twice the power of the LM250, not sure how much of an effect that would have on the output if any...

I returned a 70lb 4x10 to them that I wasn`t keen on, and I think it cost me about £30 - £40.

the little mark250 is in the right price (i can get a LM11 or 11for cheaper or a little more respectively but no wrranty) and ive heard that many good things about them im drawn to the brand but worried i might need more headroom.
Are they as loud as people say? and would a 2x12 give a nice fat bottom (ooh er missus)

Why not save money and go for this (a friend of mine has one and it's loud with a big fat bottom), you'll have to wait a couple of weeks for it to come back into stock though:
I have an LM11 and he's going to bring it round soon for a direct comparison so I can give more of an opinion after that.

I've bought stuff from Thomann before and had no problem, I think they offer a 30 day free post return policy.

I've owned the LM2 and 3 and they do seem loud, largely due to the built in voicing. They don't produce a lot below 100hz, which is not a bad thing obviously because most of those lows are unnecessary, and what you want to hear from a bass is largely low mids anyway.

Some people have also commented that the gain pots are not linear so it seems louder than it actually is.

I used an LM3 into a 8 ohm single 15 and it was running out of steam earlier than I would have liked because the limiter kept kicking in making it sound quite compressed, but it was a fairly loud band with two guits and a heavy handed drummer.

All that this proves is that loudness or perceived loudness depends on many factors and it is not as straightforward as one amp being louder than another. If only life were that simple.

You can't really compare the MiBass 550 with the small MarkBass amp because the Ashdown has twice the power. The MiBass 220 is probably closer to the LM 250 as far as output is concerned. They both have B&O power amps and power supplies - so the only difference will be in the preamps and features. The killer feature of the MiBass IMO is the tone-shaping section, which is semi-parametric with variable turnover frequencies. You should be able to dial in your perfect sound with a bit of trial and error.
The MiBass also has dual Speakon outputs, a neat auxiliary input with level control for an MP3 player or even another instrument, and an extruded aluminium case.
The MarkBass doesn't have any ot these features but does have a mute button, a balanced input and a level control for the Line out.

Although it's not perfect, the MiBass tone controls and higher output make it a much better choice in my opinion.

Nice one mate!
Really looking forward to hearing how you get one with it!
Where'd you find the LB212 Cab? They're quite hard to get hold of these days, plenty of VS212s kicking about, but they're a bit heavier.

I just googled it and they ranged from 369 to 390
I found one at music junkie for 329 (never bought from them so taking a chance but its on the plastic so should be protected)
seems to get reports re output and weight to take on barefaced cabs
Not used them before so we will see
I will keep you posted

Yeah, it's a 4 Ohm Cab, so you'll get all the power of your MiBass from it, and it's apparently very light for a 2x12!
Can't wait to hear how you get on!

Cheers,

There seem to be some mibass cabs now. I hadn't seen them before http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/section.asp?section=mb They look good. quite like the look of the 4 ohm 110

Reckon they just appeared on the site today!
I personally reckon they should've made the 1x10 an 8 Ohm cab too, as they're doing a 1x10 MiBass Combo, so that would've been a really nice modular setup.
Apparently these cabs are gonna have a kinda carbon fibre looking "diamond tolex", and the 1x12 will be a taller vertical oriented cab, i.e. be designed to be up on it's end, the pics on there are the prototypes.

I agree - a 4-ohm 10" cab is pointless, but it could be a misprint. The new vinyl covering on the MiBass combos looks really swish, at least on the YouTube video.

I guess they could be going for the EA Whizzy Double Bass market with their 1x10, it's a whizzer style cabinet from what I can tell.

Can't see the combo on their website yet - so maybe there's more to come!

Presumably its for the 220 head?

Yup, there's 4 MiBass Combos, a 1x10, 1x12 and 2x8 with a removable MiBass 220 head and a 1x15 with a removable MiBass 550.
I really wish they would do the 1x12 with the MiBass 550 in it, that plus the Mi12 cab would be perfect for me, although I'm sure I could settle for the MiBass 550 head with 2 Mi12s if I have too...

Yeah I guess so, but would it not be a better bet to buy the 1x10 Combo then, as it already has the same head in it, if the Mi10 cab was an 8 Ohm jobby, it'd be the perfect addition to the combo...
