cocco Posted December 14, 2011 Share Posted December 14, 2011 Today, after a long while of saving and selling things, The blade T-40 I bought off Flat Eric finally turned up. First impressions are great! Condition is near perfect for a 1982 bass, The tone is similar to the Toaster one but cuts through the mix better and the fit and finish feels better than the toaster too. Heres a pic for drooling over. I'm a bit besotted with it to be honest. I don't think it will be turning up in the for sale section any time soon! Maybe gear porn though. minnikin32 Posted December 14, 2011 Share Posted December 14, 2011 Awesome! I have a '79 T40, but the previous owner chopped half the body off making it neck heavy. Looks a bit ugly, but it was my first bass, and I just cannot bring myself to part with it. Has the toaster pickups, but heard those blades pack some punch. [/quote] I have to agree. I think they'd have to be expensive if they were reissued though, all that ash and metal wouldn't be cheap I don't think. Along with my customized P-bass and Tele Bass it's the perfect setup to fill the whole spectrum of bass sounds. Love her, never gonna give her away. Oh, and BTW - what the heck is with Boba Fett fans and T-40's? I met a guy from USA who was big fan of both, who messaged me after I called T-40 "Boba Fett among basses". [/quote] The switches are actually Pick-up selector and Phase switch. With both pick-ups on, the phase switch creates a hollow, out of phase tone, with both PU on full. If you roll off either of the volumes, you get a whole lot of other tones. The other thing it does is act as a Coil select on the Bridge PU, when the tone is on Full - Single coil - it switches from the one nearest the bridge to the one nearer tthe neck, giving a slightly fuller sound. Thanks for info, nice Christmas gift [b]EDIT:[/b] Yeah, that's right. With this unique feature, T-40 sounds like a funky Jazz Bass on steroids! Whoever designed the entire electronics layout in this bass was either genius or crazy. Or both. Given the prices for T-40, I guess the only reason not every bassist has this bass in his collection is its horrid weight.
