wateroftyne Posted April 17 Posted April 17 My common-or-garden 2015 US Standard, which I picked up from FB marketplace about 6 months ago. It has its fair share of dings, but you know what? It's absolutely great. Fit & finish is incredible, feels amazing, sounds amazing. These things are a lot of bass for the money. 6 Quote

Without a doubt, one of the most incredible instruments I have ever seen, heard or played. The build quality and feel is well above many Custom Shop basses I've tried (IMO) and it just looks incredible too. The stock preamp has been pulled in favor of a Bartolini one and it absolutely sings now. Sadly I don't have a second one lol. But the chap I bought it from had both this IV and the V string version. I did own a Victor Bailey sig acoustic bass years ago but completely different of course. Edited May 11 by basshead56 1 Quote
Bagman Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Yeah I remembered the TM sale but not if you got both of them lovely looking instrument - the blue one looks great as well I’m a sucker for a matching headstock Quote

agoulding Posted July 16 Posted July 16 I recently picked up a new jazz bass... MIJ active deluxe LTD. Beautiful to play and lovely tone. A nice companion to my Japanese Stingray. I like Japanese stuff, alright? 6 Quote

VTypeV4 Posted July 25 Posted July 25 You've all seen it before but I thought it looked particularly good with a bit of light on and the Fender / Ampeg back drop.. 2 Quote

I've got a pretty much identical 2015 American Std that I picked up from Bass Bros about three years ago for use in a Led Zep tribute. As you say, you can't really knock it - sounds like it's supposed to, looks the part, plays well and very robust. A great bass for not an awful lot of money. I've also got a 09 Am Std in natural with a white scratchplate, which is a really nice bass that I bought for less than a grand...! Edited August 12 by peteb Quote

Not bad, thanks @nilorius, but not as good a set of tones that Ігор Одарюк, a talented Ukrainian bassist, managed to get out of the JO5 he tested. For sure it's partly in the fingers! 1 Quote

HeadlessBassist Posted yesterday at 09:21 Posted yesterday at 09:21 (edited) Here's my current 'Jazzy' crop... 2018 American Original in Nitro 3TS, Clay Dots & Vintage Reverse Tuners, etc. 2016 American Elite natural ash. silky999's "Mr.Grey's Custom Shop" build Nitro Daphne Blue with roasted neck (and now with Fender Pure Vintage '66 pickups.) And speaking of our very own @Silky999, there is another Jazz in progress - I've reserved this lovely Walnut Jazz body and have one of Kiwi's first run Graphite necks coming for it. Should be quite the instrument when it's all put together. Edited 21 hours ago by HeadlessBassist 3 Quote

It's an earthing copper strip between the pickup cavity and the underside of the bridge. They had it on a lot of the early Jazzes to reduce 60 cycle hum from lighting circuits, etc. 1 Quote

Or was this an earlier method before they started going through the body from under the control plate? Quote

Or was this an earlier method before they started going through the body from under the control plate? That's about as far as my knowledge goes - probably better to ask a Fender historian. I'm sure there will be quite a few around here Basically, mine is a modern iteration of a 63/64, built period correct, with the cloth wires, etc. Edit: Hopefully the Gemini AI is correct in it's web scraping activities... The primary purpose of the strip was to act as a grounding strap, connecting the brass plate under the bridge pickup to the bridge itself, which is also connected to the strings. This connection formed a critical part of the bass's shielding, creating a Faraday cage to protect the pickups from electrical interference and noise. In the early 1960s, manufacturing techniques and available tools made it difficult to create a precise hole to route a ground wire directly from the control cavity to the area under the bridge. The copper strip was a simpler, more practical solution for implementing the necessary grounding. Edited 21 hours ago by HeadlessBassist 1 Quote
