But i was looking at the higher end ibanez range, and there doesnt seem to be a whole lot of choice. Anyone out there have or has tried out any of the £1000 plus models? LiamPodmore Posted March 5, 2011 Share Posted March 5, 2011 I've had a dabble on an old SR1005 sometime in the past, it was a good bass from what i could tell. The US have a much better range of Ibanez basses than we do here. They still have the SR100x, 200x (if i remember correctly), the SR706, the lower end BTB's. [/quote] Bloody hell - thought it would be steep but that's probably about a grand more than I would've guessed. The price of JapCrap these days, I dunno! So no, not for me, either. If I ever lose enough good sense to consider spending that much on a bass it'll be my own design, hand-built by the luthier of my choice. J. JimBobTTD Posted March 6, 2011 Share Posted March 6, 2011 I have an old SR1205 (as opposed to the new version due out this year) which, I suppose, would have cost over £1000. It's excellent. The SR1206 is not quite up to par, but still excellent. I can't comment on more modern models. I wouldn't pay for that Grooveline in Bassassin's link! Hideous and achingly expensive! I wouldn't really call it "JapCrap" (A term i'm not too fond of!), i've played customshop fenders which didn't feel as well put together or "cared for" to put it in a chick-flick kinda way haha, i mean you can tell that someone really worked to make it, where as the fenders feel a bit sterile construction wise but when you plug in THAT is a different story! (All entirely my opinion! and based on my experieces, i haven't played every fender/customshop fender or every ibanez £1K plus bass) I don't think you guys are taking into account that the prestige models all run through the custom shop (their bigger one). And the very top of the line ones like the Veasley run through their Master custom shop (the tiny one, BUT i still think that does justify a £4K price tag!) Much like the Yamaha TRB5/6II models, which run £2K-£3K depending on where you shop. Like wise "Mass produced" as in anyone can order that number from a book and it will be the same minus what colour/topwood you want from their collection, but they are absolutely fantastic. They are beautifuly made and constructed, they sound (to my ears/for me!) stunning, they look amazing and overall are just really great basses. Also, i've often thought about a custom bass... but i personally feel i will probably EITHER end up 10p% loving it and it becomes my go to for the rest of my life for everything or... i end up thinking its "alright" and sticking it on the wall with the others. I'm just pessamsitic but i find that a bit stupid in the end.
