[/quote] Philw and I were talking about your fretted 5 string Veillette when I was down in Brighton last week, selling him my (now his) Fender AE. His blue Veillette has a beautiful neck and the fretboard is an exceptional piece of wood - just love the colour and grain..Joe certainly knows how to build a bass - I feel privilaged to own 2 Veillette Citrons from the 80s - one came from the States the other from Doctor of the Bass (i'm sure he's gutted that he sold it to me..). If you're ever in Herts let me know..you're welcome to see how the 80s stuff compares to the modern stuff... IMHO in most basses they have little effect compared to string and p'ups then neck construction but as this is a carbon fibre one piece then the contribution will be even less. A case is the least of your worries if you can afford one of these - the last one I saw on ebay was for over £12,000 and that was a few year ago. They were designed by John Entwhistle [url="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Entwistle"]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Entwistle[/url] who had various companies make them, one of which is Status Graphite [url="http://www.thewho.net/whotabs/gear/bass/bassendorsements.html#statusgraphite"]http://www.thewho.net/whotabs/gear/bass/ba...#statusgraphite[/url] .The shape is now owned by Warwick, so there aren't many CF ones around and there is no chance any more will be made! Considering it was one of the last instruments made during a remarkable career whilst constantly seeking improvement, there's some argument that it's close to the current peak-of-evolution of the bass as an instrument! I spoke to John Shuker about this bass late last year, I was really GASing for it and was ready to buy it. I phoned John and he confirmed that it's actually a bolt on mahogany neck and that about killed it for me. I was really hoping it would be a hidden thru neck or set neck made of something bright sounding like maple. It wasn't, so I had to pass on it. Lovely bass though. And Alpha-Dave, if you check the thread here about the Dean Entwistle signature bass you can get a lot more info on the Status Buzzard. The license on the shape has now expired, meaning Warwick don't technically own it anymore. But there will never be another Status Buzzard made, because Rob and Chris Entwistle aren't on the best terms. The Entwistle estate lawyers made an error during the negotiations with Warwick and effectively gave them complete ownership of the shape for the period agreed, and Status were forced to destroy the moulds for making Buzzard basses or risk being sued. It'd be too expensive to remake the moulds though, even if Rob wanted too, apparently. However, I don't think there is much of an argument for it being the best bass ever or the peak of bass evolution, but it's certainly the ultimate Buzzard as far as I'm concerned! Here is another rare type of bass that I love...another bass that has been worked on and evolved over the past 30 years and is stunning in it's elegance and simplicity. I meant the tone and resonance. In my experience (all be it limited!) a heavy bass has a nicer depth of sound too it meaning that when a bass has large missing parts from the body its gunna drag the sound down with it. Shame to see that Tung still doesn't seem to have come back (still) and Curbow is still off the map. I never thought Curbow would make a serious go of things after production seemed to tail off shortly after Greg's death, but I had high hopes for Nicholas Tung's reappearance on the scene as he is a seriously talented builder. Still feel the same about my ACG. I've just bought it some new strings so I'm going to change them over in the next couple of days and give them a proper whizz.
