tylerlangan Posted January 15, 2008 Share Posted January 15, 2008 Hey everyone! I'm currently in the process of exchanging a Musicman Sub for a Warwick Streamer STD... As it goes I was never really into the sub, it just never felt right with me so I've wanted to change basses for a while. I've always dreamed of owning a real Warwick but have heard a mixed bag of things about the Streamers. I was just after picking the collective brain of all the BCers and asking for all the Warwick opinions (especially any regarding streamers) that this thread can handle! Please, tell me all... the good, the bad and the ugly! (I played the Streamer for the first time tonight and utterly fell in love, its the nicest looking bass I've ever seen and the sound of it was unreal... a subtle growl! beautiful) Have I made the right choice? kevbass Posted January 15, 2008 Share Posted January 15, 2008 Well its down to personal choice, if you feel the streamer is the way to go and your not comfortable with the sub then I say make the exchange, however I would say that the sub is probbably worth a little bit more than the streamer standard. cetera Posted January 16, 2008 Share Posted January 16, 2008 I personally have never got on with the more recent Warwicks as I've always found the necks to be too thick. I'd love to own an 80's/early 90's Streamer as they have a lovely vibe about them and feel/play/sound so much nicer to my ears.... I had a SUB until about a year ago and I really regret getting rid of it..... warwickhunt Posted January 16, 2008 Share Posted January 16, 2008 I'm a Warwick 'fan' and I love the Streamer... however if you are intending swapping a MM Sub for a Rockbass Streamer then I'm not sure it's such a good deal for you! Looking at the new and used values I think you'll be selling yourself short. gafbass02 Posted January 16, 2008 Share Posted January 16, 2008 To be honest i reckon you'd be doing yourself short there, id imagine you could pick up a Streamer LX with the full contoured body and two piece bridge for the price (see mine in the porn section) you could get for the SUB. I don't think I'm missing out on more than say thirty quid and I do really like the Streamer STD (The LX's look fantastic but I would rather go with the passive soapbars... just to have something very different to my J bass) is it possible to fit a two piece warwick bridge afterwards to a standard streamer? do they have many advantages over the toploading thing? Just my humble opinion. Bubinga 'vette or Ovangkol Thumb..................that's different. P-T-P Posted January 17, 2008 Share Posted January 17, 2008 Personally, I actually really liked the Streamer Standards for what they are and at the price point... at the time I bought mine it was the first bass I'd bought in about 10 years and first 4 string in a long time before that. Comparing it to the others in it's price bracket (Mex Fenders, Ibanez and Yamaha or two) I thought it was far and away the best tonally. However, I do agree with those suggesting that the SUB is worth a significant amount more than the Streamer Standard (on the second hand market). If it was my SUB and your Streamer and we were trying to do a deal, I'd probably be looking for about £200 on top of the Streamer. If the Streamer is a brand new one (unlikely surely, they stopped making them 3/4 years ago), then there's less in it, but still a good £50 in the SUB's favour. Retro-fitting a Warkick bridge... I expect it can be done, but isn't there some routing done on the Warwicks that have that two piece bridge system? Without the routing I suspect you'll struggle to get a sufficiently low action. Advantages of the Warwick bridge... multi-adjustable - can alter individual string height and also bridge height as a whole; individual string spacing can be adjusted; string change is quicker. One disadvantage, it can be a bit fiddly to make some of the minor adjustments. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
warwickhunt Posted January 17, 2008 Share Posted January 17, 2008 As PTP said, the 2 piece Warwick bridge is routed in and the string anchor is curved/shaped so doing a job would mean a wood-spoiler... I mean carpenter or guitar body shop doing it in order that it's done well. The Warwick bridge assembly will set you back 46 euro + shipping direct from warwick and you'd gain the ease of string change and adjustability. Alternatively if you do go for it then you could fit the Schaller 3D-4 bridge (Warwick used these exclusively on their early basses) and you gain the adjustability. What is your SUB worth? Bear in mind that the mods you may do are going to add to the cost and there are a couple of NT Streamers available on this forum for not much more than £600... my blue '91 Stage I included!
